"It is with great pleasure that I present to you the plans for the structure you see going up behind me: Stark Tower. The very first completely clean-energy-powered skyscraper in Manhattan..."
Pepper Potts[src]

Avengers Tower, formerly known as Stark Tower, is a high-rise building complex located in Manhattan, New York City. Owned and constructed by Tony Stark, the tower is powered by an Arc Reactor that makes it capable of running itself for over a year. The top ten floors were originally all devoted to research and development.

History

Construction

"The Stark Tower? That big ugly...building in New York?"
"It's powered by an arc reactor, self sustaining energy source. That building will run itself for what, a year?"
"That's just the prototype. I'm kind of the only name in clean energy right now."
Steve Rogers, Bruce Banner, and Tony Stark[src]

Originally known as "Stark Tower", the building holds the distinction of being the first fully self-sustaining building in New York.

Tony Stark implied he built the tower, or at least part of it, using the Mark VI as he said he did the "heavy lifting".

Loki chose the tower to be the launching point of the Chitauri invasion due to the presence of Stark's Arc Reactor, the only power source sufficient to power up the Tesseract enough to open a wormhole to Chitauri space, but also as a way to satisfy his own ego.[2]

Avengers Tower

Soon after the Battle of New York, Stark began the process redesigning and reconstructing the Tower, converting it from "Stark Tower" into "Avengers Tower".

Seen in the new blueprints are logos of his fellow teammates and himself which includes sleeping quarters for each member as well as documents bearing other such giveaway words as Avengers Tower and Avengers Training Area. Also visible is a small Quinjet hanger.

Sometime after the Battle of New York, Bruno Horgan challenged Tony Stark as Stark was giving a press conference outside of Stark Tower.[3]

After the Battle of New York, many cosplayers, including Skye, began walking around Stark Tower.[4]

During the S.H.I.E.L.D. Civil War the tower owner and occupant, Anthony Stark, was one of the 20 million targets of Project Insight, but thanks to the efforts of Captain America, Black Widow, Nick Fury, Maria Hill and Falcon, the tower remains unharmed by HYDRA's hands.[5]
