A Cyanide Pill, also known as a suicide pill, is a little capsule containing a poisonous substance designed to be ingested deliberately to quickly end one's own life.
World War II
During World War II, cyanide pills were common between spies. As such, after killing Abraham Erskine, HYDRA agent Heinz Kruger tried to flee using the Fieser Dorsch. Steve Rogers pursued him and successfully avoided Kruger's escape, but before he could be questioned, Kruger swallowed a cyanide pill concealed inside a fake tooth, dying shortly after menacing Rogers about being the first of many HYDRA operatives.
When Roger Dooley, Chief of a New York City branch of the Strategic Scientific Reserve, visited the Nazi war criminal Colonel Ernst Mueller at the Nuremberg Prison, he offered Mueller a Cyanide Pill to avoid a hanging in exchange for information about the Battle of Finow. However, the pill was actually a breath mint, and Mueller was hanged.
Capture of Richard Lumley
S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents Phil Coulson and Melinda May were trying to capture former agent Richard Lumley in Mexico, and interrogate him about his partner Agent Linda Avery. Lumley tried to consume one of these pills concealed in his watch before he was captured, fearing Coulson and May wanted to torture him, as he was shown to be very relieved when they identified themselves as agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
A Loyal Man
When S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Bobbi Morse attempted to interrogate HYDRA operative Sunil Bakshi about his superior officer, Daniel Whitehall, Bakshi, demonstrating his loyalty to HYDRA, attempted to commit suicide with a cyanide pill embedded in his cheekbone. However, Jemma Simmons was able to stop his suicide attempt.
