"Can you state for the court any preexisting opinion, any at all, that you may hold for the defendant, Frank Castle?"
―Cynthia Batzer[src]

Cynthia Batzer is the judge who took charge of the People v. Frank Castle, with lawyers Nelson and Murdock going against District Attorney Samantha Reyes in Batzer's courtroom.

Biography[]

New York Judge[]

The Punisher's Legal Plea[]

Cynthia Batzer went into the room holding Frank Castle to hear his plea. Everyone thought that he would plead guilty. However, Castle looked straight at Samantha Reyes and pleaded not guilty, sending them into the trial of the century.[1]

The Trial of the Century[]

Once the trial started, Batzer called Richard Day to the stand. Day called the Punisher an animal. The day went on with many people scolding him, but others saying that they think he is cleaning up the streets. Later, she got mad at the four hundred jurors who walked into the courtroom, but nobody could agree on twelve of them. Matt Murdock defended them saying that finding a jury for this big of a trial is hard. Batzer then asked if both sides are okay with the selected jury, which they were.

The next day, Batzer listened to Samantha Reyes opening statement. Afterwards, she asked Foggy Nelson to make his statement. However, he hesitated before beginning. He then fumbled his notes and decided to go off book. He talked about Castle's family's murder and how nobody did anything about it. Later, Gregory Tepper was called to the stand. He then confessed to altering Castle's family's autopsies. However, he also said a woman in a mask made him confess. Batzer called it a day and wiped the day's hearing.[2]

They stepped into the court the next day to hear Ray Schoonover's testimony. Schoonover was Castle's superior overseas. Schoonover told the story about how Castle saved a general's life because they got their arm blew off. Batzer then witnessed Reyes thank Schoonover for his duty and ask how he knew about the story if he wasn't there. Scoonover replied that he was the general who got his arm blown off.

A little bit later, Batzer witnessed Andrew Lee talk about Castle's injury to his head and possible PTSD. Suddenly Brian Cooley, son of Finn Cooley, had an outburst and yelled at Castle for killing his dad. Brian was taken out of the court and Batzer urged the jury to not let it influence their decision.

The following day, Murdock returns to court after an unexplained absence. Murdock calls for Castle to take the stand. As Castle walks in, a chant of boos springs out over the room. Batzer calls for order in the court. As Murdock questions Castle, the witness goes berserk, calling out everyone and having to be dragged out of the court while screaming that he's guilty.[3]

Personality[]

Batzer was very neutral to any trial as it is her duty as judge to conduct a fair trial. She urged others to stop their opinions on Frank Castle when unasked for, but also didn't stop them from starting.
