"My years on this earth has taught me... there is nothing... more important than love. I didn't have much of it. And when it was offered to me, I was too afraid to accept it."
―Esther Falb to Wilson Fisk[src]

Esther Falb was the legitimate owner of the Rabbit in a Snowstorm painting, previously owned by Wilson Fisk. As Falb refused to sell the painting back over to Fisk due to its importance to her own family, Fisk had reluctantly accepted her reasoning. However, Falb was later murdered by Benjamin Poindexter, wanting to please Fisk by returning the painting.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

"I was a toddler when the wolves came to our door. The Gestapo demanded everything we had. Including that painting. My father fought them and they shot him in front of us. Do you know what it's like to see your father take his last breath on the floor in front of you? As they marched my family across Poland to the ghetto, my mother went hungry to feed us. But of the seven members of my family, we were the only ones who survived."
―Esther Falb to Wilson Fisk[src]

Esther Falb and her family were visited by the Gestapo when she was a toddler. They confiscated everything the Falb family owned, including a painting. Falb watched her father resist, leading to the Gestapo shooting him, so Falb watched her father die. She got marched through Poland, and her mother starved herself to make sure Falb and her siblings were fed, causing her to die as well. The emotional trauma made Falb afraid of accepting love when grew up.[1]

The Painting[]

"This painting is my connection to the people I love. I know who you are, Mr. Fisk. You are a wolf, too. Men like you took away my family, took my ability to love and almost took my life. You will take nothing more."
―Esther Falb to Wilson Fisk[src]

The Rabbit in a Snowstorm painting made its way to Scene Contempo Gallery where it was bought by Wilson Fisk, but when Fisk was arrested, Falb reclaimed an ownership of the painting. She was contacted by Donovan and Partners who offered her a sizable compensation for giving the painting but Falb refused their offer. Eventually, Falb was visited by Fisk after his public release, who hoped to discuss reclaiming ownership of her family's painting. After informing him of the theft of the piece from her family and denouncing that it was gifted to him "with love," she was allowed to keep the painting; however, Falb was later murdered by Benjamin Poindexter, who brought back the painting to Fisk as a gift.[1]
