Exitar[1] was a mining space colony located inside the Celestial skull of Knowhere. It was established by the Tivan Group to extract organic Celestial material for sale on the black market.

Birth of a Space Port[]
- "Hundreds of years ago, the Tivan Group sent workers in to mine the organic matter within the skull. The bone, brain tissue, spinal fluid. All rare resources, highly valued in black markets across the galaxy. It's dangerous and illegal work, suitable only for outlaws."

Hundred of years ago, the Tivan Group set up mining operation in the decapitated head of a Celestial avatar known as Knowhere, in order to extract of precious organic matter, including the Celestial bone, brain tissue, and spinal fluid, for the black market. The business around the Celestial materials attracted a great amount of outlaws and criminals, giving birth to the space port of Exitar.
Taneleer Tivan moved one of the headquarters of his personal museum inside the city.[2]

In 2014, Exitar was visited by Peter Quill, Gamora, Rocket Raccoon, Groot and Drax the Destroyer. Before being accepted to meet with Tivan, they spent some time at the Boot of Jemiah, where they had a nice time before a fight led Drax to leave them and go walking in the streets of the city. Meanwhile, the rest of the team where called by Carina who led them to meet Tivan.[2]

In 2018, Exitar was visited by Thanos, who destroyed most of it during his quest to obtain the Reality Stone.[3] As a result, the Tivan Group ceased its operations there.
