Ward Meachum is the son of Harold Meachum who, with his sister Joy, spent his entire life building Rand Enterprises to its current position, while secretly aiding his believed deceased father run the company on behalf of the Hand. However, upon the return of Danny Rand to the company following his many years away, the Meachums saw their work put in jeopardy as Rand planned to reclaim his birthright in the company. Having considered having Rand killed, Meachum was convinced by his father to aid Rand, only for his frustrations with his father's abuse overtake Meachum as he brutally murdered his own father, only to witness his father return to life. Going to Rand and Bakuto for aid, Meachum eventually assisted with finally stopping his father's schemes and finally killed him, building up a friendship with Rand while his relationship with his sister suffered due to all of Meachum's numerous mistakes.
Intending to better himself, Meachum decided to get sober as he found himself in a relationship with Bethany while trying to repair his relationship with his sister. However, as it was soon discovered that Joy was working with Davos in order to steal the Chi away from Rand, resulting in Meachum joining forces with both Rand and Mary Walker in order to defeat the power-hungry Davos and also save his sister from him, while also learning that Bethany was pregnant with his child. Having been successful, Meachum was left by Bethany and chose to go into Asia with Rand in order to assist with his mission to find Orson Randall and reclaim the power of the Iron Fist.

As a child of Harold Meachum, Ward Meachum was raised together with his sister Joy. The death of their mother affected Harold who was taking his rage out of Meachum. For a long time, Meachum was abused by his father but kept it a secret from anyone, including Joy, in order to protect her. Despite Joy's concern about her brother's injuries, Meachum lied to her and even planned to escape with her.[2]

Eventually, Harold founded the Rand Enterprises together with his friend, Wendell Rand. The Rands and the Meachums family became close friends, and so Meachum and Joy befriended Danny Rand. Though Joy was very close with Rand, Meachum often bullied him and would play cruel pranks on him, such as locking Rand in a freezer at the Rand Enterprises Building cafeteria and putting a dead frog in his sandwich.[3] Meachum often had trouble in school. He would ask Joy to help him and he passed calculus with her help.[4]
Several years later, the Rand family were all presumed to have died in a plane crash over Asia, and Harold became the only CEO of the Rand Enterprises. Establishing his financial condition, he brought up Meachum in a business world and groomed him to someday take over the company.[3] Ignoring his son's drawing talent, Harold forced him to play rugby instead and later got him in the Wharton School where Meachum studied business.[5]
The New CEO[]
Graduating Wharton, Meachum was assigned as the new CEO of the Domani Architecture, a subsidiary of the Rand Enterprises. Under Meachum's leadership, Domani aggressively utilized dozens of the varying resources of its parent company. Meachum personally pioneered a series of revelations in composite construction materials aimed at expediting building projects.[6]
In 2004, his father suffered from terminal cancer for three years before his eventual death. Leaving Domani, Meachum inherited the Rand Enterprises together with Joy Meachum who became the Chief Counsel. Meachum's business sense and management skills brought the company to ultimate success. Suddenly, Meachum was contacted by his father who managed to rise from the dead and ordered his son to manage the Rand Enterprises for him and keep it a secret from Joy.[3]

Ward and Joy were in their office the morning a man visited, dirty and barefoot. The man insisted her was Danny Rand. They were taken aback by his appearance, Ward insisted that he could not be the child that died fifteen years ago. They concluded that the person was not mentally stable despite the constant proclamation that he was Rand. Ward was going home that night when "Rand" hijacked the car he was in. Rand drove around while trying to explain to Ward. Ward turned him away which angered "Rand". He then sped up towards a wall, losing his temper. Ward had to beg him to stop the car. "Rand" then apologized, realizing what he had done and ran. The next day, Ward found out that "Rand" stalking Joy at her house, which was his former home. He schemed the plan to have him sedated and admitted at Birch Psychiatric Hospital. He met with Harold Meachum afterwards and told Harold not to overwork his assistant, Kyle[3]

When Joy began to feel remorseful for her actions, Ward reassured her that she did the right thing and that they could have turned him over to the police. Ward met with Harold and talked to him about "Rand". Harold thought it was possible and had Kyle find out any information. Kyle figured out that "Rand" made a phone call to Colleen Wing.[3][7]

Harold requested that Meachum visit Chikara Dojo, home of Colleen Wing. With her class ending, he walked inside the dojo and introduced himself to its owner, questioning her about the presence of the man that identified as "Danny Rand." Though she told him she has never made contact with him, Meachum offered her a deal that would keep him away. He gave her time to think about the cash reward despite telling him that she did not feel threatened or uncomfortable about him.[7]
A Change in Plans[]
As Ward walked back to his office, he stared at Wing leaving through the elevators. He went into his sister's office to find her excitingly weeping over M&M candies. Though he asked why Wing was on the premises, Joy informed him that the M&Ms provided her definitive evidence that the man was Danny Rand, as he was the only one that knew about the removal of the brown ones. Ward did not believe this to be strong enough proof and continued to perceive him as a threat. Frustrated, she ridiculed his attitude, comparing him to their father; Ward sighed and left the room.

Later, in the Rand Enterprises Building, Ward held a meeting with Joy and the executives. It was interrupted by a call from Frank N. Stein, leaving Ward to retreat to his office. During the conversation, Harold was convinced that their patient was, in fact, Danny Rand and requested that he be moved to a safer location. Ward, however, felt he was not Rand and protested on her father's behalf to have him coddled in a safer environment. Harold repeated that he thought Rand would be an essential asset in taking down the Hand. Though Ward agreed to have him moved, he ended the call and informed Birch Psychiatric to assault Rand, but not before taking some medicine.[7]

With alerts of Rand's escape, Ward tasked Shannon and his men to guard Chikara Dojo. Paying the Penthouse another visit, Ward saw that Harold was in his sleeping chamber, which he had to use after his resurrection. He informed his father of Rand's escape from the hospital. Harold told Ward to put Joy on the pitch for Raj Patel. Ward said he could do it, but Harold scolded him, saying that everything he is doing is for him. Harold then pointed out that he wanted Rand moved to a safe location, but Ward attempted to kill him. He then punched Ward before asking him if he could take care of all of it. Ward assured him he could. Harold reminded him to cooperate and told Ward how much he loves him. Ward returned to Rand Enterprises to tell Joy what he wanted her to do.[4]

That night, Ward greeted Joy in her home. She was dressed formal for the meeting with Patel. They got into the limo and found Patel inside with alcohol. They arrived at a hospital and were brought into a patient's room. Joy explained to Patel that he will be taken off a life support soon, but his liver is a direct match for Patel's nephew, who needed one. All Patel had to do is sell the pier to Rand.[4]

The next day, Ward visited Joy Meachum in her office. He asked her if she would ever want to leave. She reminded him they lose everything if they leave and Ward told her that people have come back from poverty before. She told him she won't leave, but will miss him and will have his back.

Afterwards, they went out to lunch. Danny Rand showed up, scolding Ward. When Ward scolded him back, Rand got angry and knocked over a wine glass. Joy stepped in between them and told Rand she wasn't his sister and he wasn't her brother. Rand told them he had Jeri Hogarth before angrily leaving. Back at the building, Joy asked Ward to give her files so that she could beat Hogarth. Ward asked if Joy felt bad about what she said. Joy told him that Rand claimed he saw Harold. Ward grew confused and worried.
Later, they met with Hogarth and Rand for a settlement. Joy announced that they lowered the price from a hundred million to twenty million dollars. They also added a restraining order. Hogarth responded with many proposals including 51% of the shares. Ward told Hogarth that her humor was her best attribute, but she couldn't prove it was Rand. Hogarth jokingly told him that she was glad he thought her best attribute was her humor and not her ass. She then presented a pottery item from Rand's childhood: a pot that Rand and Joy made containing Rand's fingerprint. They then walked out as Rand told them his name is more important than money. Ward stared at Joy, thinking she had something to do with how they obtained the item before getting a call from Harold.[4]

Harold warns Ward
Ward arrived at the penthouse to meet with Harold, asking why Harold left his penthouse. Harold said he does what he wants, but Ward reminds him that he cannot, he is stuck in the penthouse. Ward threatened to go to the New York Times and report on him, but Harold said that Joy would die. He then showed Ward his scarred hands, saying that the punishment he just received for sneaking out is mild.[4]
Rand's Reveal[]
Suddenly, a man was climbing up the side of the building, so Ward kicked the man. When the man fell on the ground, Ward realized it was Danny Rand and brought him up to the penthouse. When Rand woke up, he was angry with Ward for kicking him, but Ward defended himself saying that anyone would kick an intruder out of the window. Ward then showed Rand that Harold was alive. The two hugged as they reunited, and Harold explained what happened. Ward cautioned against it, but Harold pushed forward.

After talking, Harold ordered Ward to let Rand into the company. Harold explained that he died, but the Hand brought him back to life. Since Rand claimed to be the Iron Fist, destroyer of the Hand, Harold asks if he could help get rid of their lasting presence. In the elevator, Ward told Rand to be careful around Harold, he was not a replacement for his dad and he only cares about himself.[8]

Ward met with Joy Meachum the next day to discuss allowing Rand into the company. He claimed that she paved the way for him. He knew she gave Rand the pot. Rand then walked in wearing a nice suit. Ward remarked that the tie was a bit much. They stepped outside into the conference room to announce Rand's inclusion. He told Rand to stick to the script. After Rand's speech, a reporter asked if the rumors were true that he spent time at a mental hospital. Rand confirmed the story and said the Meachums helped him get through the trauma of coming back home. Ward pulled Rand away before he could take any more questions.
Shortly afterwards, Rand barged into Ward's business meeting where he was talking about a new drug to help a parasitic disease Leicshmaniasis. Ward suggested a business strategy to sell the pills for a big price. Rand heavily argued this saying that people are dying, and no one should make a profit. Ward and everyone else argued that it was how business was done. Rand told them they have to sell at cost. Ward asked if Rand was drawing a line on his first day. When Rand said yes, Ward told them that was what they would do.
Later, Ward got a call from Harold Meachum applauding him for integrating Rand. Ward was angry that they let Rand in and promised that Rand's screw up won't happen again. After hanging up, he asked Megan to tell the reporter, Jennifer Many that he will answer all of her questions.[8]
Interview with Many[]
That night, Meachum met with Jennifer Many and was drunk. He then complained in great detail to Many about his anger towards Rand and what had happened. Many recorded everything down and thanked him. Meachum asked why she was leaving before having bourbon. She claimed that she had an early morning deadline. She then called Mitchell Ellison to tell him she has front page news.[8]

Danny Rand marched into Ward's office with a packet of Steel Serpent heroin saying that it was found at their pier. Ward quickly closed the door asking why he would bring heroin to his office. Rand explained that the Hand were using Rand Enterprises to smuggle heroin, but Ward didn't believe it. Rand pointed out the serpent symbol on the packet is the symbol of the Iron Fist. Ward still didn't believe it, leaving Rand to march out angrily without the heroin. Ward put the packet in his drawer.
Ward discovers Harold is watching him
He then met with Joy who just finished a meeting with Regina Fitzgerald who filed a lawsuit for sickness due to Rand's power plants. Joy said she felt bad, but Ward reminded her that that's what makes her a good person. Later, Ward found a video of Rand speaking to Fitzgerald, promising to make things right. Ward grew angry, but Joy reminds him that Rand had no idea he was speaking for the entire company. Ward then brainstormed ideas to counter the video. Ward also wanted to make sure Joy's heart doesn't overtake the good of the company. As Joy left, Ward opened the drawer to get some medicine, but not before looking at the heroin. He then got a text from Harold Meachum saying to do as Joy says. Ward then flipped off the hidden camera in his office.
At a meeting, Ward talked to the shareholders, saying he wished Rand was there, but he isn't good at managing his schedule. He then concluded that settling would be a mistake and it was an act of misleading. Lawrence Wilkins argued that Ward isn't doing what's best for the company. Joy defended Ward saying that he has never once failed the company.
Meachum wakes up after taking the heroin
Ward watched as Thembi Wallace reported on Rand's promise. Ward muttered under his breath for his father to "suck on that". He then took some more medicine and locked eyes once again with the heroin as his father called. Ward ignored the calls. He took the heroin and woke up to find Joy, who was worried. Half awake, he talked about Harold watching over him, but didn't tell her who he was talking about.[9]
Searching Warehouses[]
The next day, Ward had trouble focusing, but rewatched Rand's promise to Fitzgerald. Joy walked in saying they are handling the news, but she hired a crisis management team. A confused Ward didn't remember that. Joy told him that she sent an email, which Ward missed. They then talked about how Joy found the medicine in his drawer. He claimed that he threw out his back. He further proved this by throwing out his medicine.
Ward and Danny Rand go to search
He later confronted Rand who told him he tracked the heroin to the man responsible for making it. Ward told him to stop and asked if he's seen the video. He then told Rand he has to deal with it and ordered him to make a meeting at 4. Rand scoffed, telling Ward to handle it. Rand talked about there being lives in danger, but Ward said he made a promise for Rand to be there. Rand then told Ward to go with him to find the warehouses then, so it could be done quicker because what he has to do cannot wait.

After the third warehouse, Ward got angry and told Rand to stop, but he refused. Ward followed Rand into the warehouse and saw a dented trailer, made from Rand earlier. When they opened it up, they found the severed head of a man. Ward went to call the police, but stopped, knowing Rand Enterprises couldn't be tied to it. Rand found a note inviting him to a battle. Rand then left saying it's for him only.[10]
Withdrawal[]
As the day went on, Ward began to feel withdrawal from the pills. He searched his garbage can for the pills, but it was gone. He asked Megan where it could be, and she said maintenance came by early to pick up trash. Joy then walked in saying that Wayne Olsen was there to see them. They started the meeting and Olsen told them Rand joining was the greatest thing they could do. Ward scoffed. As the meeting went on, Ward grew more pale and his symptoms got worse. He started imagining King's head on the table and ran out into the elevator. He called his doctor to ask for more pills.
He then drove to the pharmacy and slammed the car door into his hand in order to have an excuse to get the opioids. He ran in and asked for some. After begging and bribing, the doctor threatened to call security. Joy ran in and got Ward out of there. Outside, Joy confronted Ward. He assured her it wasn't what she was thinking. She then drove him home.[10] The two engaged in an argument. Ward yelled that he could not tell Joy what is wrong.[11]
Problems with Harold[]
Hiding the Bodies[]
Ward was then called by Harold Meachum. Ward was told that he needed him to come to the Penthouse immediately, despite the late hour, for something important. When Ward expressed his desire not to come, Meachum told him that he needed him in an attempt to emotionally manipulate his son. When Ward arrived, he was horrified to see his father smashing in the faces of two Hand soldiers using a hammer to destroy their faces and teeth and cutting off their fingers in order to make them harder to identify. Ward threw up, although Harold remained calm, questioning what had happened to Ward's broken hand. Harold told his son to take the bodies to Pelham Bay Park and dump them in the lake, noting that the Hand or the New York City Police Department would eventually find them but hopefully they would be in the clear by then.
Ward figures out he has no money
Ward furiously confronted his father about calling him in the middle of the night to dump bodies for him, but Ward argued that there was nobody else he could call to help him with this, and that Ward always came when he needed him. Ward compared this action to them going deer hunting when Ward was a child, although Ward noted that they had never been hunting together, with Ward questioning if he had taken Joy Meachum hunting instead then. Ward then continued smashing the faces while Ward looked on in disgust and horror at all of the violence.
Ward reluctantly put the bodies in the river. Joy visited him in his office, and they talked. Joy said she would be fine if Ward took a location. Ward bought plane tickets and found out his card was declined. He checked his balance to find he had no money.[11]
Assassination of Harold Meachum[]

Ward angrily marched into Harold Meachum's Penthouse, knowing Harold took his money. His father told him he was too smart to be caught for stealing Rand Enterprises' money. Harold then said that Ward cannot leave him and assured Ward he would regret running. Harold said that it was a good day, and he should be happy. Ward told his father that the last happy day of his life was the day Harold died. Harold then punched Ward in the gut and started listing the knowledge that he gave Ward. As Harold walked away, Ward grabbed a knife and sneaked up on him. Ward then stabbed Harold four times in the gut before Harold collapsed. He then stabbed him two more times, killing him. Ward brought his father's corpse to the same pond where he dropped off the other bodies. He drove away smiling.[11]
Manipulation and Cleaning[]
When Meachum returned to the penthouse with bleach. He was surprised by the arrival of Danny Rand, whom immediately slammed him against the wall. As Rand questioned Meachum about his father, he had given him the lie that he had not seen his father and saw the blood in the mats. As Rand expressed sorrow and remorse for his actions in Anzhou, Meachum continued to lie, placing blame on him for having to mourn his father's death a second time, calling Rand a cancer. He soon began to clean the blood after Rand left the penthouse.[12]

Ward and Joy Meachum were voted out of the company by Lawrence Wilkins and the shareholders. A furious Joy and Ward met with Wilkins, who gave them a hundred million dollars in severance. Ward pointed out that it was the same amount they offered Danny Rand to which Wilkins responded saying it was ironic. Ward looked down to see his wrist bleeding, but it was all in his head. When Joy snapped him back to reality, Ward asked for a pen. Joy asked to discuss with just her and Ward.
Joy was angry of Ward's comment, and he asked if she truly was surprised, he wanted out. They talked about their past dreams and what they always wanted to do. Joy asked if she could forma strategy to win their position back, he would consider it. Ward agreed as long as Joy considered accepting the buyout. They shook hands and Ward saw more blood on his wrist.
Ward negotiates with Lawrence Wilkins
Later, Ward went up to Wilkins office to see him golfing on a mini pad. Ward talked about how Joy and he have an argument that won't end. Ward offered to take a pay decrease in order to have his severance be independent of Joy's. He Ward offered thirty million on top of a compensation of half a million. Wilkins was surprised and insulted Ward, saying his father would be ashamed. Ward told him he didn't know shit about his father. Wilkins then told Ward that Joy had already rejected the offer. There was no more money. He asked for a favor, but Wilkins simply said it was too late. Ward walked away in anger.
Ward and Joy argue
He confronted his sister in the park later. He angrily scolded her, and she told him she had a plan. Ward thought her plan involved Rand and got even angrier. However, Joy showed him photos, having hired a private investigator. The photos were of various scandals of the shareholders. Ward calmed down. The two then talked about their relationship outside of the company. They realized they barely talked about anything outside of the company. Joy claimed Ward put up a wall one day. He claimed he was protecting her, but she told him he could say it. He refused. Joy then decided to tell him a secret: he was the person she would most admire. He then decided to tell her everything.[12]
Telling Joy the Truth[]
Ward and Joy Meachum arrived at Harold Meachum's Penthouse. When they got to the elevator, Ward saw blood pouring down the walls. He ran away and saw even more blood. He walked out of the penthouse, but Joy stopped and asked him what was wrong. He told her he was going to ask for money, and she made him feel bad. She told him she didn't even know he needed money, but he claimed it was because she kept talking about looking up to him. He angrily told her off before leaving.[12]
His Unexpected Return[]
Ward finds Harold Meachum alive
Ward walked into the penthouse while listening to a voice mail from Joy Meachum. He noticed the lights were on and saw a revived Harold Meachum stand before him holding a knife. Initially, he was afraid, as Harold asked him if he were a bad father to him. Harold dropped the knife and broke down, hugging Ward. Ward told Harold that he wished to step away from being his right-hand; though Harold allowed him to leave, Ward repeatedly declined that he would bring Joy into this.[1]
Admitted to Birch[]
In an attempt to kill Harold once and for all, Ward made a deal with Hai-Qing Yang. Yang told him that the only solution was to run. Ward left and slapped on Steel Serpent once he made sure no one was looking. As he walked out to his car, two police officers surrounded him. They showed Ward that they found drugs in his car. Ward immediately asked for a lawyer saying he was set up. They did not believe Ward and arrested him. He was brought to Birch Psychiatric Hospital where Paul Edmonds talked to him. Ward claimed Harold had drugs planted in his car, but since Harold is dead, Edmonds thought he was crazy.[1]
A Deal with the Devil[]
As Ward's condition grew worse, he began hallucinating. He hallucinated to see Harold Meachum telling him he was hungry. Ward screamed "no" as Harold grew closer. He opened his eyes, but saw nothing. Suddenly, Harold appeared again telling Ward then Joy. Ward screamed until Doctor Stacy Hill came to help him. Ward pleaded for her to let her out so he could save Joy. She didn't budge.
Bakuto visits Ward
While finally calm and asleep in his room, Ward Meachum is visited by a stranger, who walked to his IV stand. He awakened and asked who they were; they answered that his name was Bakuto and that he wished to be friends, administering an antidote to the heroin. Bakuto informed Meachum that he was Hand, which led the patient to quickly draw conclusions that any deals made with him had strings attached and asking what he wanted. Continuing on, he told Ward that he wanted Harold gone, as he had become too bolder in his actions. Bakuto also mentioned that he wanted to hold Madame Gao's former position in Rand Enterprises and sell the antidotes to the heroin that has been sold and distributed around the world. He requested from Meachum that he bring him Iron Fist while free, to which Meachum accepted. Another part of the deal that Ward would give him access to Rand Enterprises if he would kill Harold.[13]
Betrayed by Bakuto[]
Arriving at the penthouse, Ward was greeted by Joy, elated to see him again since his previous breakdown. He tried to convince Joy that Harold Meachum was using her, but she didn't believe him. After an argument, Ward was attacked by Kevin Singleton. Ward knocked Singleton down and pulled a gun on him and Gary. He complained that everything had to be so hard. He then told Joy to come with him which she agreed to. As they walked away, Bakuto arrived. Ward pleaded with him saying he wasn't supposed to come this early. With his plan exposed, Ward tried to further convince Joy that Harold needs to go with Bakuto because he is a monster. Bakuto then punched Ward in the chest hard enough, so Ward had a hard time breathing. Singleton and Gary pulled their guns, so Bakuto's men shot them in retaliation.
Bakuto betrays Ward
As Joy and Harold were forced to sit down, Bakuto told Ward to shut down the money transfers that Joy put on Bakuto's account. Ward told him that holding Joy hostage wasn't the deal and pleaded for him to let Ward and Joy leave. Bakuto didn't agree. Ward did the deed and asked if they were free to go. Bakuto again said no and ordered Ward to sit down. Ward kept pleading for Joy's release and Bakuto instead asked for his phone. He called Danny Rand and shot Joy on call. Ward rushed to the bleeding Joy. Bakuto then held a sword to Harold's neck and told him to be there in thirty minutes or he will kill the Meachums.
Bakuto gave Ward cloth to put pressure on Joy's wound. As he was about to kill Harold he asked for any last words. Harold looked straight at Ward telling him he was the biggest disappointment of his life. He then apologized to Joy for not telling her before saying she loves her. As Bakuto was about to swing, Rand arrived. He submitted himself to Bakuto. As they left, Harold told Ward to get over and help Joy get to the hospital.

Ward took the hospital form, telling Harold that he will do it. Harold sat down next to him saying the hospital was disgusting. He then told Ward his actions reminded him of he and his own father's relationship: you have to topple the king. Harold told Ward that Rand served his purpose. It now depends on if Bakuto killed Rand or if Rand killed Bakuto. He then called Rand, who told him he killed Bakuto. The next morning, Ward realized Harold framed Rand for heroin and texted Rand to warn him.[13]

Later, Ward talked with Jeri Hogarth, who was confused on why he wanted to help Danny Rand now. He told her he had changed. Harold Meachum then walked in and a shocked Hogarth told him faking his death was fraud. Ward told her to leave. Harold then opened a secret safe, that Ward didn't even know was there. Harold went on about how they got back into Rand Enterprises. Ward asked about Rand and Harold coldly told him he wasn't needed. Ward realized he has been using him since he got into Rand, Harold said it has been going on way before that.

He later met with Joy Meachum, who wanted nothing to do with him despite his explanations. At night, he talked with Rand who asked why he is helping him. Ward explained that he wanted Harold dead as much as him. He talked about his abuse at the hands of Harold, but Rand explained that Harold was responsible for his family's death. He then started looking off into the distance as if he saw something. When Ward snapped him out of his trance, Rand announced he was killing Harold before walking away. As he returned to Rand Enterprises, he saw Joy walking out. She ignored him and got in a car before leaving.[14]

Harold Meachum holds Ward hostage
Ward went up the stairs into his office. He called Rand telling him they cannot kill him tonight because there are too many guards. Unbeknownst to him, Harold heard him and whacked Ward on the back of the head with his golf club. Ward fell to the ground as his blood splattered on the window. Ward woke up and held the back of his head as he stumbled out of the room. As Wing and Rand arrived, Harold planted his men with guns. Ward pleaded for his father not to do it. Suddenly, Rand broke through the window and a fight started. Harold grabbed Ward and brought him into a corner telling him that if he moves, he will hit him. Harold then walked out, shooting at his enemies.

Wing arrived by Ward's side and prepared to sneak up on Harold. However, Harold noticed her, so Rand punched the ground with his Iron Fist, setting off a huge explosion. As Rand pursued Harold, Ward grabbed the file proving Rand's innocence. He and Wing then heard Rand's screams, realizing they he and Harold were on the roof. Ward arrived on the roof to see Harold about to kill Rand with his back turned. Rand deflected the bullet with his Iron Fist. Ward then shot Harold. The impact made Harold fall off the roof of the building.[14]

Ward and Danny Rand watch Harold's burning
Soon after the death of his father, Ward burned Harold's body to ensure he doesn't come back. Ward then told Danny Rand that he didn't want to run the company alone now that Joy Meachum had left. Ward suggested that he and Rand run the company together. He jokingly said that he couldn't blame his father anymore for his failures, weaknesses, and unhappiness. Back at Rand Enterprises, Ward looked at the photos of him and Rand, replacing the photos of Harold and Wendell Rand. He then took his father's photo and put it behind his desk as he stared at it.[14] In order to start their new leadership from scratch, Meachum severed ties with several companies he suspected were Hand fronts, including Midland Circle Financial. Two months later, Meachum left New York City for a business trip.[15]
Meachum was informed that Rand Enterprises cybernetic division was contacted by Rand who requested a high-tech prosthetic arm for Misty Knight. Interested, Meachum personally checked the characteristic and purchase orders of the arm.[16]

Meachum began trying to find his inner peace over everything that happened. He regularly went to NA meetings for two months. He had relations with the leader, Bethany, and they often had sex. One day, after a meeting, Bethany told him that he should start talking as he had not done so yet. He walked away. They met right on time in a closet and started having sex as usual. Bethany told him he needed to talk about his feelings, but he told her it was not the right time.
He was called into a Rand Enterprises meeting and found Danny Rand in an elevator. They talked about Rand's absence as he wanted to help the community more. They arrived at the floor and realized that neither of them called the meeting. They opened the door to find Joy Meachum. Ward was happy that she was back in town and she invited them to come in. Ward wanted to talk, but she got straight to the point. She wanted to be bought out of Rand. Ward angrily told her no, but Rand wanted to do what she thought was right and signed it, causing Ward to angrily leave the room.[17]
Talking With Joy[]
Ward found Joy Meachum at a party and tried to talk to her about her feelings of him. They talked, but Joy did not give much. She then pointed out how Ward was going to NA meetings and asked why he did not tell her. He got mad that she knew, meaning someone snitched, but he assured her he was going to tell her. She then introduced him to a man, Davos. She told Ward to say hi and Ward obnoxiously yelled hello to Davos, then chuckled at his own joke.[18]
Ward attended another NA meeting only to be very tired of it. He blurted out and asked who told Joy about his meetings. He pushed on asking until one of the members rudely told him that nobody knows his sister. Ward angrily walked out in front of Bethany.[19]

Ward called Danny Rand and they met at Rand's apartment. They talked for a little until Ward brought up the idea of inviting Joy Meachum and Davos to dinner. He also told Rand about their relationship. Rand said that he needed to ask Colleen Wing first, causing Ward to tease him for a moment, Before he left, Ward asked if he could keep his involvement a secret from Joy despite Rand thinking it was a bad idea.
Later, Ward sat outside Rand's apartment and ignored multiple calls. He then decided he could not do it and left. He arrived at the NA meeting after hours and found Bethany who was still mad about before. They talked before she gave him a bit of advice.[19] When they woke up together, Bethany told him that she could not be his sponsor anymore because of their sexual relationship. Although, she likes him, it was not good for his well being. He was okay with it and they kissed more as they could be sexual partners without the barrier.[5]
Offering an Olive Branch[]

"And you wouldn't be involved at all?"
"Think of me like a like a silent partner. A resource. Joy, imagine what we could accomplish together."

Ward went to Joy Meachum's home and surprised her. He said it was cold so he bribed the super to let him up. Joy reluctantly let him into her house. Ward told her that he made a deal to have her independence by buying her a company, but he could also help. Joy angrily told him that she wanted to be far from him. Ward disappointingly told her that he thought this would be a peace offering. Joy told him she was never coming back to Rand Enterprises.[5]
Heartfelt Conversation[]
- "At these meetings, everybody has a story. Bethany's been trying to get me to talk, to take a step, but I can't. Say the truth in front of all those strangers, how can I do that?"
"I think that's the point, Ward. You just gotta keep showing up."
"Why? It's all part of this stupid plan. I do all the steps. I get all healthy. I sit down with Joy. She forgives me for everything she thinks I've done. But I'm stuck on the fourth step. "Fearless and searching moral inventory." From the guy who murdered his father. Twice." - ―Ward Meachum and Danny Rand[src]
Meachum was approached in the street by Colleen Wing and Detective Misty Knight. Wing told Meachum that Danny Rand was missing. Meachum told them he will put Rand Enterprises security on the case. He was later called by Wing, telling him that they found Rand, but he was badly injured. Meachum called Bethany to help as she was a doctor. Bethany saved Rand, but told Meachum not to call her for any medical emergencies again.
Wing tended to Rand and told Meachum that Davos took Rand. He grew worried about Joy Meachum, so Wing and Knight went to grab her before she was in danger while Meachum stayed with Rand. Later, Rand woke up and Meachum calmed him down, saying he needed to rest. Meachum teased him about being the best fighter in the world and getting beaten. Rand talked about how Davos was strategic. Meachum said he still did not understand what Chi was. Rand explained that he was going out every night and finally mastered the fist. He sees the dragon.
Meachum told Rand about his NA meetings and they did not help, but listening to Rand just now, he related. He could see the dragon that Rand saw. Meachum further explained that he did not want to share to his group, but Rand told him he had to. Meachum explained that he wanted to go and then finally talk to Joy, but he was stuck. Meachum would always be seen as the guy who killed his father. Rand asked if he told the story of what his mother told him before she died. Meachum realized Rand had it worse and shut up, but Rand said it was okay.
He continued by saying his mother told him she loved him before she was sucked out of the plane. Rand kept those words with him throughout K'un-Lun because he never knew if he would ever get to say that to the people he loved the most, people like Meachum. Tearing up, Meachum said that he did not know if he ever said "I love you." Maybe to Joy, but he did not know when. Rand told him to make peace before it was too late. Meachum chuckled asking if this is where he said the "L-word."
Wing, Knight, and Joy then arrived along with Mary who went by Walker. They realized that Joy was the one who put Rand through all of his recent events.[16] After interrogation, Knight decided not to arrest Knight or Joy as they could help. Wing and Knight decided to go get the Crane Sisters, who transferred the Iron Fist from Rand to Davos, so that they could reverse it. Ward wanted to come, but they told him to stay with Rand, Joy, and Walker.[2]
Babysitting Joy[]
- "You have no idea what I spared you from. There were so many times that I wanted to tell you. I would literally pack a bag, buy plane tickets, get into a car, drive to your place, thinking, how am I gonna tell you that we need to run away and start over?"

Ward punched the post, annoyed that Joy Meachum made him think he was the crazy one while she was plotting. Suddenly, Walker entered, having broken out. She said she could bring Danny Rand to Davos. They did not trust her, but she claimed that was just a job and this was a new one. She said she could do it for half a million dollars. Ward scoffed at the money, but Rand agreed. Ward then asked if she told Joy that he was in NA meetings. Walker told him that she did a background check on him and proceeded to recite his daily routine to a tea.
He sat at the table while Joy walked in. They started arguing and Ward claimed he understood why Joy would go after him, but not why she would go after Rand. Joy claimed he did the same thing and he admitted he was wrong, but only because he thought he was an impostor. Ward stuck up for Rand saying he did not hurt her knowingly and now she was allying herself with a murderer. Joy said he did the same thing with their father. Ward told her he was protecting her, but Joy did not want to hear that excuse anymore. Ward explained that there were times where he was injured and made excuses, but it was all Harold's beatings. As he teared up, he explained that he always wanted to take her and run away, but Joy said he never did so and that was why they were at odds. She then left.
Ward found her outside and said he never wanted to hurt her. Joy said that did not matter, because he did hurt her. Joy said that she wanted to get out and start her own business and that is when she could talk to him. However, it had to be on her own time, not his. He understood, but wanted to do it soon. Joy got mad saying that it was always what he wanted, never the other way around. She sat down, saying she did what she did to Rand, because she could not do it to Ward. He also sat down saying Harold was dead, but he was still tearing them apart. If that happens, he won. Joy did not care and told him goodbye, for good.[2]
Learning of the Truth[]
Meachum later got a call saying that Davos shattered Danny Rand's leg, leaving him in critical condition. Meachum rushed to the hospital and found that Rand was in surgery. Due to this, Meachum went to the bar and seven hours later, was very drunk. He got a call saying he was neglecting his duties and Rand Enterprises, but he did not care. The bartender asked if he was clocking out, but he said not even close. Bethany then arrived thinking he was there because of his sister. Meachum explained that Rand almost died, but Bethany reminded him she was there. Meachum called that a scratch compared to what happened with his leg. Bethany wanted to bring his to a meeting, but Meachum refused. When Bethany tried to leave for the meeting, Meachum wanted her to stay. The bartender told him to get his hands off of her, so Meachum flicked cards at the bartender, who punched Meachum. The two engaged in a minor fight until Meachum was knocked down.
Meachum finally decided to go to the meeting. When he approached the door, he heard Bethany talking about a man who she loved and had been seeing. Knowing she was talking about him, Meachum listened in. He heard Bethany say she was pregnant with his baby, and she had not told him. Meachum was shocked and left.[20]
A Deal with Walker[]
- "If I get you your file, will you help me get to her? Get her away from him if that's what needs to happen? Make sure she's safe?"
"She is not safe as long as he is breathing. I've told her as much. The only answer, when it comes to Davos, is a final one."

Meachum went to a bouquet shop and tried to get flowers for Bethany as an apology. He then got a call from Joy, tired to hear her call. She asked if he remembered the factory he bought for her. He made a sarcastic response before saying yes. She wanted him to take it over as she had other things in need of her attention. He hung up and paid for the flowers, allowing the cashier to keep the extra money. She told him good luck and he said his luck did not break that way. He then left the store without the flowers.
Ward arrived at Joy's penthouse to find Walker in the home. He tried to usher her out, but was not successful. Walker wanted redacted files pertaining to her past and wanted Ward to hire someone to get them. He told her he was out of favors since he was already helping Joy. He searched through drawers only to find a picture of their mother. Which worried him as he realized that their mother ran a renewable energy company that Joy wanted to run. She wants him to run it in case she dies at the hands of Davos. He then decided to make a trade with Walker, saying that if he got Walker the file, she would get Joy out safe.[21]
Meeting Turk Barrett[]

"He's not interested."

Meachum was able to get the files for Walker who instantly burned the papers to remove that part of her life. The next day, they met with Turk Barrett, who was golfing from soda cans. Meachum told him to keep his shoulder down and Barrett claimed that his talking messed him up. They got to business in buying a gun. He bought a simple handgun for 3k. He then gave Barrett more golfing tips.
He arrived at Eden Towers to find Misty Knight fighting who he thought was Davos. He immediately shot only to realize it was Chen Wu. He remarked his displeasure before taking the very injured Joy Meachum away. Knight told him thank you and he told her to call him Ward.[22]
Sharing His Story[]
- "I'm not great with people. I'm terrible at relationships. I'm a son with no mother or father. I'm a brother with no sister. And I'm very deeply alone. I was in a bar a few days ago. I found myself doing what you do in a place like that. And a friend of mine, that I care for deeply, she came to me in that awful place and she asked me, "Who do you want to be?" I, I don't even know how to begin to consider that question. I have lived my life in relation to others. And I have estimated my self-worth based on that equation. And the fact is that now all those relationships are gone. So I'm here to say to all of you that I have no one. And I don't know myself."

Ward brought Joy Meachum into an ambulance and Joy regretted what she did to Danny Rand. Ward apologized for everything, saying he thought he had a say in Joy's decisions, and he now knows he could not. Ward then revealed he was going to be a father. Joy did not know how to respond.
Meachum went to an NA meeting and finally decided to speak in front of anyway. He fumbled over his words, but talked about being terrible at relationships as well as being alone. He admitted to the bar fight and that a friend, Bethany, came to him to help, asking him who he "wanted to be." Meachum said he did not even think about that question and has now done so. He talked about being tied to relationships, but now everything was gone. He had no one and could now meet himself.
After the meeting, Bethany thanked him for sharing. She asked who told him about her pregnancy and Meachum admitted to overhearing. Bethany said she planned on telling him and Meachum understood, saying he wanted to be there for her. However, Bethany refused, saying it was not fate. Meachum knew he made terrible decisions, but believed he could make it right with help, but Bethany had to do it on her own. Meachum asked if she did not believe he could change. Bethany dismissed that saying she had to take care of two people from now on and could not take care of a third. She kissed Meachum before leaving him alone.[23]

Suddenly, Meachum was informed by Katie that Danny Rand charted Rand Enterprises Private Jet to travel to Asia. At the airport, Meachum argued with the pilot, stating that the airplane was not going to departure until Rand talks with him personally. As Meachum ignored all his answers, he continued yelling on the pilot before Rand arrived at the airport. Meachum questioned Rand about his sudden decision to leave the United States what Rand replied, saying that this was complicated. However, Meachum insisted that he is not going to let Rand go until he explains everything.

Rand answered that he needs to understand the legacy of the Iron Fist, handing him the Hancock Transport bill of landing. While Meachum was examining the paper, Rand explained that Davos obtained the corpse of previous Iron Fist from someone who could have an answer that Rand needed. As Meachum simply proposed Rand call them on a telephone, Rand claimed that he needed to go on the journey to find his own way what Meachum briefly mocked. Rand then explained that he needed to find a better way to become a better man before getting on a plane, leaving Meachum outside.
Meachum rants about Danny Rand's departure
Joining Rand in a plane, Meachum allowed him to go wherever he wants to follow his own way, while Meachum would stay to lead Rand Enterprises by himself once again. As Rand was annoyed by Meachum's complaining, he reminded Rand that he was not the one who was raised by the monks and defeated the dragon. Rand suddenly proposed that Meachum join him in his journey, but Meachum noted that leaving the country is too irresponsible for him and this is too late to run from himself. However, Rand convinced Meachum that he could find out which person he could be and learn more about himself and Meachum eventually agreed.
Meachum joins Danny Rand's on the trip
Together, Meachum and Rand traveled across China, Malaysia, and Indonesia, chasing the trail of the Hancock shipment. Eventually, they learned the name of their target - Orson Randall, mysterious and powerful black-market dealer. Meachum and Rand managed to track down his facility in Jakarta where they stole Randall's shipment.[23]

Months later, Meachum and Danny Rand tracked Orson Randall's subordinates in Japan. Meachum went for a personal meeting with them in a bar in Hokkaido where he informed him that he knows everything about his employer. While Randall's man kept denying his objections, Meachum showed him Hancock Transport's bill of landing about the corpse of Iron Fist and called Randall by his name. As Randall's man was interested now, Meachum noted how difficult for them was their search for Randall, recalling their travels to Hong Kong in Kuala Lumpur.
Meachum allows Danny Rand to help him
As soon as Meachum mentioned Jakarta, Randall's man figured out that Meachum was responsible for the theft of Randall's shipment there what Meachum confirmed. As henchman signaled his partner, he confronted Meachum in order to reclaim their shipment, but Meachum warned him to stay away from him. Randall's men refused to let him go and Meachum allowed Rand, who was in the bar too, to deal with them. Meachum then left the bar, leaving Randall's men with Rand who used his dual pistols charged with chi to confront them.[23]

Meachum carries himself with an arrogant, rude, condescending, and confident air and can come across as spiteful and mean. During his youth, he often bullied Danny Rand and played cruel pranks on him. Not much has changed by the time he became an adult. When Rand returned, Meachum showed the fear that Rand would come to try and take back the Rand Enterprises and cause more problems in his and sister's lives, ultimately refusing to believe Rand's identity. He was willing to have Rand killed to get him out of the picture, which he attempted twice, and later nearly killed Rand himself by pushing him out a window when he came close to entering Harold Meachum's Penthouse.
Behind his smugness, Meachum is in truth weak-willed and suffers from an inferior complex. Joy constantly proves to be better than him with business. His father, Harold showed him no love or praise despite Meachum's best attempts to aid him, only forcing him to perform participate in more horrific and morally dubious acts. His inferior complex only got more intense when Harold blatantly showed his favoritism toward Joy over him. Meachum also felt pressure from Joy, who idolized and wanted approval from her brother, which felt as being put on a pedestal by her.
Combined with the stain of secrecy to his father, this led Meachum to continuously take drugs to calm his nerves and inner pain. The combined stress of Harold manipulating his life, keeping Joy in the dark about their father being alive and his drug abuse started to affect his sanity, enough to cause him to kill his own father and dispose of his body while making Rand think that the Hand did it because of Rand's fight with them. His sanity was also affected by his fear and guilt over what he had seen, enough to cause him to talk to the corpses of Alexi and Vando, whose bodies he disposed of on behalf of his father, hallucinating after finding King's severed head with Rand, and imagining blood around him after having killed his father.
He wasn't without his virtues. Meachum genuinely cares and love his sister, Joy. He was conflicted by his secrecy to Joy, having been forced to keep Harold's secret for her own safety. After learning the danger his father was becoming due to his resurrection, especially towards Joy, he became devoted to finding a way to destroy his father, even dealing with Bakuto to do so in his desperation.
After torturous experiences dealing with his drug withdrawal and Harold's schemes, Meachum has become humbler and more confident. Realizing that Harold's scheming would lead to no good for him and his sister, Meachum allied with Rand to take him down. After dealing with Harold, Meachum made his peace with Rand and even offered him to run the company together.

- Glock 19: Meachum took the handgun from one of Harold Meachum's men in order to rescue her sister Joy from the influence of their father. After a brief struggle, Ward held his father and his two men at gunpoint as Joy agreed to leave with him, but lost it once Bakuto and his men arrived and held the whole family at gunpoint.
- Heckler & Koch USP Compact: Meachum then took one of these handguns from the defeated security guards loyal to Harold Meachum to the roof of the Rand Enterprises Building where Danny Rand was battling his father. He shot at the latter, making him fall from the building.
- Handgun: Meachum bought this gun from Turk Barrett when he accompanied Mary Walker to build gear from him. He then used it to shoot Chen Wu in the neck at Eden Towers, when she went there to rescue Joy Meachum, as Wu was fighting and about to overpower Misty Knight.
- Hand Ceremonial Knife: In an act of pure rage, Meachum had furiously grabbed a nearby knife and used it to murder Harold Meachum, by stabbing him repeatedly in the chest, leaving the knife in his father's corpse as he dumped him into the river.

- Prescribed Medication: Suffering from some amounts of nervousness and anxiety, Ward typically takes some form of medication to alleviate the building stress. He, however, mixes the medication with alcohol.
