"This device turns any moisture around it to ice very rapidly at a great range."
Jemma Simmons[src]

The Atmospheric Moisture Freezing Device is a device designed to turn any moisture around it to ice very rapidly.

History[]

"The device uses a crystalline nucleation process she designed."
"And a delivery mechanism he invented."
Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons[src]

The Atmospheric Moisture Freezing Device was based on a crystalline nucleation process designed by Agent Jemma Simmons and a delivery mechanism invented by Agent Leo Fitz.

S.H.I.E.L.D. cadets Donnie Gill and Seth Dormer combined the two into a weapon, staging a series of attacks against themselves to lure Agent Leo Fitz to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy of Science and Technology. Their plan was to use Fitz's help to upgrade the device, hoping to sell it to Ian Quinn.

One of its rarest components, thermopile radiation sensors, were shipped to Dormer's father, a lawyer for Quinn Worldwide.

Hoping to impress Quinn with a demonstration, Gill and Dormer activated the device, creating a super storm that shut down the nearby S.H.I.E.L.D. Academy of Science and Technology and killed Dormer. While attempting to stop the storm, Gill was struck by lightning as he was touching the device.[1]

When Agent Victoria Hand had the Bus brought to the Hub in order to kill Coulson's Team and John Garrett because she believed that they were undercover HYDRA agents, Agent Grant Ward gave Phil Coulson a list of the various items on-board The Bus that they did not want her to obtain, since they believed she was the Clairvoyant. Among those items was "Donnie's Weather Machine."[2]

When John Garrett had Ian Quinn brought to HYDRA's Barbershop Headquarters to show him the Gravitonium, the Atmospheric Moisture Freezing Device was nearby.[3]

Jemma Simmons believes that the lightning strike to the device as Gill touched it granted him his powers.[4]
