- The Synthetic Man is based on the character Jim Hammond, the original Human Torch. He was an initial member of the Invaders alongside Captain America, Bucky Barnes and Namor, in addition to also being one of the first characters to appear in a Marvel Comics publication, debuting in 1939's Marvel Comics Vol 1 #1 alongside Namor.
