Joy Meachum, J.D. is the daughter of Harold Meachum; who together with her brother, Ward, spent her life building Rand Enterprises to its current position. But upon Danny Rand's return, the Meachum siblings saw their work put in jeopardy as Rand planned to claim his birthright in the company itself.
Having experienced the loss of Joy's father again alongside the betrayal of her brother, Ward, she aligned herself with Davos in an effort to seek revenge while starting anew and independent from Rand Enterprises. With the Iron Fist removed from Rand, she quickly regretted the partnership with Davos and sought the aid of Mary Walker for protection.

Along with her brother, Ward Meachum, Joy was raised by Harold Meachum without mother who eventually died. Harold brought up his children into a business world and they were groomed to take over the Rand Enterprises someday. As such, she and her brother became associated with Danny Rand, the child of Harold's colleague, Wendell Rand. While Joy became Danny's close friend, Ward was abusive towards him and would often bully him.[3] Joy and Rand were so close that everything joked that they would get married.[4] When Joy was twelve, Harold took them to summer vacation in The Hamptons. She was very impressed by horses which she saw and said to her father that she wants to become a horse breeder when she grew up.[1]

Then Harold was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and he did not have long to live. For three years he suffered from illness and Joy visited him every day. Joy turned him over in bed to stop him getting bed sores and sang him "Crazy In Love"; however, eventually, her father died from cancer when she was 13.[5] Following her father's death, Joy would have recurring dreams about leaving school and seeing her father by the gate. She would grab his hand as they left, but before she could do so, the dream would end. She had the dream a hundred times.[2]
When she grew up, Joy studied in Pierson College and made friends with Mika Prada. However, Prada stole at least three her boyfriends and her favorite teacher. Joy hated her with a passion but pretended that she liked her.[6] After Pierson, Joy studied law at Columbia University. Following her graduation, Joy inherited Rand Enterprises because the Rand family had gone missing and were presumed dead. Alongside Ward, who became CEO, Joy worked at Rand as Chief Council.[3] She had relations with Hai-Qing Yang, but eventually cut him loose, making Yang angry.[4]

Walking into Ward Meachum's office, Joy met eyes with a stranger who claimed to be Danny Rand. Visibly disturbed, she shied away from him when he attempted to embrace her. After asking to speak with Harold Meachum, she and her brother informed him that he had passed away from cancer and demand that he leave the premises. Becoming frustrated, she was frightened by his movement before security escorted him out. Later, she conversed with her brother about the incident and went home.

At home, she found that her dog was locked in an office, but didn't think anything of it. She then found "Rand" outside her house. He admitted to sneaking in, which explained how the dog was in the office. She told him she will call her guard, but he just wanted to talk. He then backed into the street on accident. When a car came by, he had to flip over it in order to not get hit. He then ran away.
Arriving at Rand Enterprises Building and into her office, she was surprised by the appearance of Danny Rand. When asking him how he managed to get inside without being detected, he responded that he knew all the entrances and exits, perceiving it as his second home. She agreed to speak with him but warned him that she was armed with mace and had a button to alert security. Pouring him a cup of water, Joy explained that while Ward was persistent that he was not Rand, she partially believed that he was Rand by appearance but accepted that he died in the crash. She listened as Rand began to divulge his experience during the day of his parents' death. She watched as he became dizzy and collapsed on the floor, standing over him next to Ward. While he laid unconscious, the two had him transported and enlisted as a patient at Birch Psychiatric Hospital for treatment.[3]
Investigating[]
Joy, later, regretted the decision to drug him; however, Ward Meachum reassured her that she did the right thing and that they could have reported him directly to the police. Later, Joy got a call from "Rand's" doctor, Paul Edmonds, who asked her if she remembered shooting a commercial for Rand Enterprises when she was younger. She said yes. He then asked her to describe the day. When she complied, she asked why. Edmonds told her that he can't share, the hung up.
Joy grew curious and investigated some old photos of Rand and her childhood. She used the assistance of Megan. She decided to send "Rand" a package of M&Ms because Rand used to sort them when he was younger. Later, she got a visit from Colleen Wing, who gave her the package back. The only M&Ms that were missing were the brown ones, just like Rand used to do when he was younger. When Ward walked in, she told him, breaking down into tears. Ward refused to believe it and Joy told him to grow some balls.[7] Joy hires a private investigator: Jessica Jones.[1]

Ward Meachum later met with Joy to talk about Danny Rand. He assured her again they were doing the right thing. He then told her she had to strike a pier deal with Raj Patel. She returned home to find Rand on her doorstep. She told him that in another world, it would be romantic. She then asked him what happened, and he told her every time he tried to tell the story, no one would understand. She told Rand about her recurring dreams of her father. He then told her that he had a dream the night before of Harold. It was so real that he could even smell him. She asked him to come inside with her. She then presented him an offer for his shares, a hundred million dollars, but he would have to change his name. Instead of being grateful, Rand got mad. He never wanted money; he wanted a family. This prompted him to leave the building. She told him she had to live in the real world unlike him.

Joy joined Ward for an approaching dinner. Dress formally, the two approached a limo, inside Patel awaited them with champagne and glasses. They traveled to Metro-General Hospital, where Joy told him about Kevin Kennedy, a dying boy who was an organ donor that possessed O-negative blood. Upon his death, she informed him that his liver would go directly to Patel's nephew Terence Patel, but only if he were to sell Red Hook Pier to Rand Enterprises.[2]

The next day, Ward entered her room and she was pissed off that Ward didn't tell her what the company was planning. Ward asked her if she ever thought about walking away. She reminded him that they lose everything if they leave. Ward told her that people have been able to start over with nothing. She got up and sat next to Ward, he told her he was tired. Joy said she would miss him.
Danny Rand crashes their lunch
The went to lunch afterwards when Danny Rand showed up, scolding the both of them. Joy stepped in between Rand and Ward, telling Rand that she isn't his sister and Ward wasn't his brother. Rand then angrily left after telling them he has Jeri Hogarth as his lawyer. Back at Rand Enterprises, Ward got Joy files pertaining to Rand so that she could beat Hogarth. He asked her if she felt bad over what she told Rand. Joy assured Ward that he is crazy because he claimed to see their father at the mental hospital. She returned home and saw an old pottery item that she and Rand made. She decided to sneakily give it to Rand to prove his identity.
Later, she met with Hogarth and Rand. They lowered their settlement to twenty million dollars and added a restraining order. Hogarth told her they were insisting on 51% control of the company and were adding a corner office, support staff, and housing allowance in the amount of one million per year. Ward told her she has always been funny, but she can't prove he is Danny Rand. Hogarth then brought out the pottery item from Joy's house which contained a fingerprint of Rand's. Joy claimed she had no idea how Rand got it. After they left, Ward stared at Joy, thinking she had something to do with it.[2]

After the negotiations, Ward Meachum decided to allow Danny Rand into the company. He told Joy that she opened the door for him, saying he knew she gave him the pot. Rand has always been her soft spot. Rand then opened the door in a suit. They held a press conference for Rand as they announced his inclusion. Joy looked on as Rand gave his speech to the press. A reporter asked if the rumors he was put in a mental hospital were true. He confirmed the story, getting a worried remark from Joy. Rand said he couldn't have come back so strong without the help of the Meachums. Before the next question, Ward pulled Rand away. After the press conference, Joy admitted that was nicer than they deserved.

Later, Ward was giving a business proposal on how to supply medicine for Leishmaniasis. Rand barged in, making a ruckus as he moved his chair next to Joy. As an annoyed Ward continued, Rand asked Joy what he was discussing. After hearing it, Rand argued that they shouldn't profit off of the medicine if people needed it so bad. After an argument about how business works, Rand drew the line. Joy then asked Rand to meet with her.[4]
Attempted Kidnapping[]

They walked outside on the sidewalk. Rand brought up the conference saying that she probably regrets giving him that pot. Meachum told him that despite not being wrong, that's not how business goes. He then asked her why she gave him the pot. She said that him coming back made her think of all the people she had lost and the person she had become. She concluded her father wouldn't like it and decided to do the right thing. When they arrived at his apartment, Rand talked more about his time in K'un-Lun as well as how he got the Iron Fist. He also talked about his training, which Meachum argued sounded like abuse.

Rand asked if she needed a drink and she jokingly asked if he could make a vodka tonic. Rand said he could if it was just vodka and tonic. She then walked outside only to be grabbed by a group of men. She screamed for Rand as she was dragged down the hallway. Rand fought the men, who used their axes against him. As Rand reached the elevator, one of them tried to strike him with the ax, but Rand deflected it with his Iron Fist. They then fought in the elevator and Meachum even threw a punch.

Rand forced them away and brought Meachum to Colleen Wing's dojo. She asked Wing if she knew about the Golden Sands. She said she didn't know, but they could be triads. She then looked up the Yangsi Gonshi. Rand then left in a hurry to have a word with them, having Meachum stay with Wing. Meachum put on boxing gloves and started punching the Mu ren zhuang while talking to Wing about her childhood with Rand. Rand then returned and noticed Wing's finger was dislocated, so he popped it back into place. As Meachum and Rand left, Meachum gave Wing back the gloves, thanking her. Rand asked what they were going to tell Ward, but Meachum said not to tell him. She then returned to her apartment and put an ice pack on her wounds.[4]
Dealing with Fitzgerald[]

Joy had to deal with a lawsuit from Regina Fitzgerald, who claimed that people who lived within one mile of their power plant had gotten sick. Joy notified her that they followed the law and even if it is true, they are still following the law, so it was not their problem.
She then met with Ward Meachum for lunch and she complimented him for his hypothesis that Fitzgerald didn't have a case. However, Joy got upset that it was part of their fault. Ward said it was because she was a good person, but what happened there was her being a good businesswoman. Later, Joy and Ward watched as Fitzgerald sent them a video of Rand promising to make things right, threatening to release it. Joy reminded Ward that Rand had no idea he was speaking for the entire company. She also told him that they should settle and not go to court.
Joy finds Ward
In a meeting, Ward announced they weren't settling, much to the dismay of the shareholders. However, Joy backed up Ward saying that he had never let the company down before. That night, Joy went to Ward's office to see him passed out on the couch. She asked him what he took, but Ward assured her he was fine while obviously feeling the effects of something he took. Ward chuckled and said he shouldn't listen to her. Joy asked why he was doing it to himself, and Ward said he was doing it to him without giving any more clues. Joy admitted he was scaring her, but Ward said there was no way out. Ward said she stuck by him, and Joy said they were family.[8]
Ward's Slip Up[]
To help address Danny Rand's promise to Regina Fitzgerald, Joy hired a crisis management team and sent out an email. She then met with Ward Meachum, who didn't read his email. She told him she saw the medicine pills in his drawer, and he claimed it was for his hurt back. He then took the pills and threw them away. They then went to a meeting with Wayne Olsen. In the middle of it, Ward ran off into the elevator. Joy found him at the pharmacy begging for pills. Joy pulled him aside and he assured her it wasn't what she thought. She drove him home.[9] They engaged in an argument that was interrupted when Ward got a call from "Frank N. Stein." Joy asked who it was, but Ward refused to tell her. Joy then angrily walked out.[10]

The next day, Joy presented Danny Rand with a memo of what he has to say in the press to clear Rand Enterprises' name. Rand and Joy argued about the well-being of the people, but Rand got up in the middle of it after seeing something in the hall. She then apologized to Ward Meachum for snapping at him. She told him he could take a break for a few weeks. At the meeting, Rand told everyone he knew they were mad at him, but he is shutting down the Staten Island branch. Lawrence Wilkins verbally attacked Rand, but Joy told him to stop. Rand told them he already told Karen Page what they were going to do. Rand then left. Reviewing the story written in New York Bulletin by Karen Page, Joy expressed admiration for what published but was quickly taken aback when Lawrence Wilkins arrived in her office with security, telling her that the Board had an emergency meeting and voted the Meachums out of Rand Enterprises.[10]
She and Ward met with Wilkins later to discuss severance. Wilkins gave them a hundred million dollars which happened to be what they offered Rand. Ward dozed off and Joy snapped him back. He nonchalantly asked for a pen to sign. She asked for a minute alone. When the two siblings talked, Ward admitted he wanted out. He brought up Joy's previous dreams when she was younger. She told him she wanted to do that, but she earned her place in the company. She asked Ward if he would consider a way back in if she thinks of a plan. He agreed if she considered the severance.
Joy later got back photos from her private investigator. The photos were of many scandals that the shareholders were involved in. She decided to turn down the money. She was walking in the park when Ward furiously walked up to her asking why she turned it down. He had a plan for both of them to get what they wanted. She showed him the photos and he calmed down. They talked about their relationship outside the office. She claimed he put up a wall one day. He decided to tell her everything.
They arrived at a penthouse and got into the elevator. Suddenly, Ward's demeanor changed. He ran out and told Joy to stop making him feel bad. She was confused and he claimed he was going to ask for money, but she made him feel bad. She said she had no idea about the money. He angrily told her off before leaving.[1]

Joy looked into the building that Ward Meachum took her to and found out her father bought the building the week before he died. She called Ward, but he didn't pick up. She then found Danny Rand on the sidewalk and told him that they got ousted. She then asked Rand if he knows anything about the building. Rand told her no, but she knew he was lying. Rand told her he would tell her later.[11]

Still curious, Joy walked back into the penthouse building and found the elevator open, as if it knew she was there. Joy walked in and kept finding elevators opening for her. When she arrived at the top floor, she found her father, Harold Meachum, alive and waiting for her. A shocked Joy asked how he was alive, he told her she had grown so much as she cried.
After talking with her father, she realized why Ward Meachum had been acting the way he was. She believed Harold shouldn't have put it on him.[11] Harold turned to a plan to get Rand Enterprises back. Later, Joy decided to call Rand. Harold took the phone and they talked about Madame Gao. Joy asked Harold who that was, but he changed the subject to a bourbon that he grabbed. When Joy told him to stop, Harold angrily threw the bourbon on the ground. A frightened Joy looked at him. He apologized and went to clean it up.[12]
Reinstated[]
The next day, Lawrence Wilkins committed suicide. However, Joy was let back into the company on behalf of Maria Rodriguez who proposed the idea. Later, she had a drink with Harold Meachum, but felt suspicion something happened. She asked her father for complete honesty: if he had Wilkins killed. He assured her that he didn't, but they do need to destroy someone: Bakuto.[12]
Joy couldn't sleep while in her father's penthouse. She researched information on Bakuto. She worried about Ward Meachum, but Harold said he will come back. Later, Rand arrived with his friend, Davos, to help stop the Hand. Rand decided that he needed to kill Bakuto. Soon, Kevin Singleton and Gary arrived in time to guard Harold. Joy asked how long Singleton knew. She then started on the plan: shutting down the Hand's accounts.[13]
Hospitalized[]
Joy and Harold talked as they watched the security cameras closely. Joy suggested they go on a vacation when this is all over. Suddenly, Ward Meachum arrived, having recovered from his issues. Joy hugged him and he asked to speak with her alone. Harold turned him down, but Joy said it was okay. Ward told Joy that Harold was using her, but she didn't believe him. Ward then had an argument that ended in him being attacked by Kevin Singleton. He pulled a gun and forced Joy to join him. As they walked away, Bakuto arrived. Ward pleaded to wait, revealing he made a deal with the Hand to stop Harold. Ward assured everyone that Harold was a monster. Singleton and Gary pulled a gun, so Bakuto's men shot them dead. The blood splattered on Joy's shocked face.
She was forced to sit down and started tearing up. Harold was then grabbed by Bakuto's men. Joy angrily jumped at Bakuto, but she was pushed back down. He told her she was testing his patience. Bakuto used Ward's phone to call Danny Rand. As he talked to Rand, he shot Joy in the abdomen and then held a sword to Harold's neck. He told Rand to be there in thirty minutes or he will kill all of them.
Despite just shooting her, Bakuto gave Joy medicine to help the pain. Yet, he didn't let Ward take her to the hospital. As Bakuto was about to kill Harold, he asked if he had any last words. Harold looked at Ward saying he was the biggest disappointment before telling Joy he loved her and apologized for not telling her he was alive. Just before swinging the sword, Rand arrived and submitted himself to the Hand in exchange for their lives. Joy called for Rand as he walked away. Harold lashed out telling her to shut up.
Joy was carried by Harold and accompanied by Ward into Metro-General Hospital, rushed for the bleeding wound to her abdomen.[5] The next day, Ward visited her, but she didn't want to see him. He closed the door and told her that he found Harold killing two men, but she didn't trust him. She left the hospital and met with Harold at Rand Enterprises. She asked why Harold framed Rand, which he denied, he then backed off and said he withheld certain documents from her that showed Rand was guilty. She told him to show her the documents, but he claimed he gave them to the DEA. However, she didn't believe him and left. Outside, she saw Ward, but ignored him.[14]
Seeking Revenge[]

Meachum eventually found out that her father had once more died for good, so she left New York City without telling anyone. She met with Davos in Paris, talking about how Danny Rand and her Ward betrayed her and she got sick of putting up with it. Davos remarked that Rand destroys everything he touches, commenting how Meachum's life fell apart after his return, which she confirmed. Davos told Meachum that she had no chance to get her old life back, unless Rand is removed with it, and Meachum agreed.[14] Meachum wanted to follow in her mother's footsteps and create a company for renewable energy, in this case solar.[15]
Upon returning to New York, Meachum and Davos devised a plan on how to get their revenge on Rand by stealing the power of Iron Fist from him. Using Meachum's money and contacts, they reached out to Mary Walker and hired her to spy on Rand and collect all the information on him, with the intention to attack him when they are ready. Also, Meachum got in touch with the Crane Sisters, who would provide Davos with a tattoo that was needed for a ritual to transfer Chi from Rand to Davos.[16]
Long Awaited Meeting[]

Selling away her house, Meachum rented a new apartment and send messages to both Ward and Danny Rand, asking them to come but making it look like that they asked each other. Both Rand and Ward were surprised and confused at seeing Meachum back in New York City, but she only told them to come inside, so they could talk. Meachum jokingly remarked how this was her first official meeting since she moved back, and when Ward hopefully asked if she is coming back to them, Meachum replied that that was not the case. Meachum explained to Ward that she was intending to buy out of Rand Enterprises and showed him and Rand a divestment package that she prepared with the help of an outside firm.
Ward was frustrated that his sister was ignoring his calls for months only to show up for this, but Meachum reminded him how he was eager to leave the company not too long ago, when Lawrence Wilkins tried to kick them out. Rand tried to tell Ward to ease up and not be too hard on Meachum, but she was fine with that, saying that she missed his bickering. Looking at the stock options and expired patents Meachum wanted to walk away with, Ward assumed that all she wanted was to take his job, but Meachum said that it was not about him. Meachum told them that she wanted to take what she worked her entire life for, so she could have a chance to make something on her own, explicitly remarking that she was not interested in punishing her brother.
Meachum then reminded that he had been lying to her about their father for years and she did not take that lightly, although Ward thought that they put that behind them. Meachum asked them for any counter-proposals, Ward angrily rejected her offer. Meachum was rather calm about that, as Rand told Ward that they need to respect her and agreed to sign her offer, so they could put everything that happened with Harold and the Hand in the past. Ward said that he cannot sign it, but Meachum reminded him of Rand's 51% share in the company, although Ward called that a mistake and left. Meachum then walked Rand out, before he said that he was proud of her and wished her luck in her new beginnings, which she thanked him for.

Later, Meachum was drinking wine when Davos visited her, offering him a glass but Davos refused, saying that he needs to maintain his physical well-being. Meachum asked Davos about the status of the shipment they were waiting for, and Davos told her Hai-Qing Yang changed the price they agreed on, expressing his disgust for dealing with someone like him. Meachum then told Davos how she had to look Rand and her brother in the eye and act like she was not planning anything with Davos, which he thought Meachum would enjoy. Meachum replied that she did at first, but then Rand sincerely wished her luck with she was doing around, which did not sit well with her. Davos reminded Meachum that she should not be wavered by Rand, but Meachum assured him that she will not stop that easily.
Davos came back after talking to Rand personally and Meachum asked if he had done anything to him and why risked by approaching him. Davos explained that he had the opportunity to snap his neck, but he showed mercy to his brother, offering him a chance to make it right and give the Iron Fist on his free will. Meachum said that Rand, Ward and her father had been lying and manipulating her, and once Rand came back to her life, everything she had crumbled in front of her. She said that Rand deserves to understand what it feels like to have everything he had ripped away from him, which Davos was delighted to hear.[17]
Blackmailing Mika Prada[]
Joy and Davos went to an auction event to talk with an old college colleague, Mika Prada. Ward Meachum ended up approaching Joy and they talked for a little bit before she asked about his NA meetings. Ward never told Joy about the meetings, but wondered who told her. She then introduced Davos before they left with Prada for the night. At Joy's apartment, they gave Prada a lot to drink so that her judgement got skewed. Davos then seduced and had sex with her while Joy recorded so they could blackmail Prada, who did not want a scandal. Prada was forced to give them a special bowl that Davos planned to use.[6]

Joy met with Sofia Rios for a business opportunity. After the meeting, Joy told Rios to let her know what she thought. As Rios left, Davos walked in and they got an invite by Danny Rand to have dinner. Joy decided to accept it. Arriving at Rand's they were greeted by him and Colleen Wing. Joy remarked at how the old dojo looked good as a home. She then condescended Wing a little over money. As they ate, Wing had enough and decided to have them talk it out. Joy told Rand about her feeling of betrayal for Rand and Ward Meachum. Rand then let it slip that Ward was supposed to come. Joy got even angrier that she got lied to once again. Davos then forced her to leave. Outside, he told Joy that he found pictures of Rand taken by Walker meaning she was crossing them.[18]

Meachum and Davos paid Mary Walker a visit at her Apartment, both confronting her on Danny Rand's possession of the photographs she had been tasked to take. Though Walker denied actively giving the photos to him and Davos attempted to attack her, Meachum advanced that the two calmed themselves; the three remained in the apartment throughout the night in an effort to gain some explanation to Rand knowing about her presence.[18]

While Davos left the apartment for the bowl, Meachum stayed with Walker. As she conversed her, she poked around her belongings, eventually coming across a letter that detailed Walker's disorder. She was briefly clutched and choked by Walker before cowering away into the floor. Quickly, Meachum reasoned that Walker had not purposely given away the photos and allowed her to continue her task of capturing Rand, requesting that she did so as Walker.[16]
Annoyed with Ward[]
Joy returned home to find Ward Meachum. She was annoyed, but let him in anyways. He proudly told her that he bought her a company so that she could be independent. However, Joy got even angrier as she yelled at Ward saying that she did not want to be tied with Rand Enterprises in anyway. Ward said it could be a peace offering, but left disappointed. Later, she got a call from Danny Rand, but declined it. Rand's voice message said that Davos was dangerous and she needed to leave him.[16]

Walker arrived with a phone and gave Meachum the recording, saying to watch it before she left. The recording was of an injured Danny Rand waking up. Meachum thanked her. As Walker left, she warned Meachum about Davos. Meachum assured her their relationship was over. She then texted Davos asking him to see her.
She left and then returned home to find Davos there. She effectively ended their relationship, but Davos said that they made a deal. She gets revenge on Rand and Davos gets the fist. However, Davos was just starting, meaning their deal was not over. Meachum told him that his actions could not blow back on her. Davos warned her that every choice has consequences. He then left, leaving Meachum to think about his words. She then called Colleen Wing to tell her where Rand was.[19]
Offer for Protection[]
She met with Walker again, who told her of Davos' danger. She told Meachum that she might need to eliminate Davos. If she did, she could hire Walker. Suddenly, Wing arrived. Meachum told her it was not a good time, but Detective Misty Knight told her to open up. Meachum had to comply as Walker hid. Knight told her that they needed to take her as she was in danger. Knight knew someone was inside and went to investigate. Walker attacked and they all fought while Meachum watched. Walker was soon arrested. They were all brought to the dojo where Joy confessed to putting Rand through it. As she teared up, she told them that Davos was not finished.[19]
Interrogated by Misty Knight[]
- "I haven't been arrested, I haven't been Mirandized, and I haven't spoken to my lawyer."
"I will just call this you and I having a chat in a mutual friend's apartment."
"And if I try to leave?"

Meachum was interrogated by Misty Knight, but claimed she could leave at any time since she was not under arrest. Knight told her that she could see how far she gets. Meachum revealed that Walker had DID and how Davos was able to get the Iron Fist from Danny Rand. Knight concluded that Meachum was scared of Davos. As her and Walker waited, strapped to chairs, Walker broke free and suggested Joy do the same. However, Joy refused as she did not want her life ruined.[20]
A Possible Future[]

Joy waited for a little bit before listening behind the door. When she found it quiet, she opened the door and saw Ward Meachum. Ward and her argued with Ward saying that he understood her betraying him, but not Danny Rand. Joy brought up him trying to kill Rand, but Ward claimed he was wrong as he thought he was going to burn them to the ground. He claimed Rand did not hurt her knowingly. Ward walked up to her, apologizing for everything that happened. Joy claimed her life was a lie because of Ward and Rand opened her eyes to the truth. Ward claimed she allied herself with a murderer, but Joy said he did the same with Harold Meachum. Ward claimed he was protecting her, but she did not believe it. Ward brought up all of the times he was hurt and it was all Harold's beatings, not any of his excuses. Joy grew interested and started listening and Ward teared up. Ward said he always wanted to leave with her, but Joy said he never did it and now they are where they were. She then left.
Ward found her outside, saying he was her only family, they need to talk. He never meant to hurt her. Joy talked about wanting to get out and start her own business. After that, she could come back and talk, but she needed to do it herself, not when he was ready. Ward understood, but wanted to do it soon. Joy got mad saying it was only what he wanted, never what she wanted. Joy told him that she did what she did to Rand because she could not bear to do it to Ward. She reflected, saying it was screwed up. Ward said that their dad was dead and is still tearing them apart, if he does that, he wins. Joy said she did not care and told Ward goodbye for good.[20]
Rejoining Davos[]
Meachum returned home and called Sofia Rios telling her she will not meet her in New Jersey. The doorbell then rang so she hung up and got her taser ready. She saw it was Misty Knight and opened the door. She asked about information on Davos, but Knight did not give it. Knight then asked everything Meachum knew about the ritual. Meachum did not give it so Knight brought up the fact that Meachum had taken extra safety precautions recently. Meachum then told Knight that she got the ritual bowl from Mika Prada.
Meachum went to Walker's place only to find that Mary was in control. Meachum really needed to talk to Walker, but Mary refused, saying it was life or death because of Davos. Mary said that Davos hurt her friend. Meachum went to leave, seeing no hope, but Mary wanted her to stay and offered coffee since she was friends with Rand. Mary wanted Meachum to tell him she hopes he feels better. Meachum told her they are not going to talk for a while because she did something bad. Mary admitted that Meachum did not seem like the person that would do something bad. Mary concluded that Meachum was there because she wanted Walker to protect her. Meachum admitted to it and left, but not before seeing a drawing of a rose, saying it was really good.
Meachum then went to Davos' warehouse, saying that all of her plans were not real and what they did to Rand meant something. She admitted to being afraid of Davos, who said he did not want to hurt her. She explained that fate brought them together for a reason and she wanted to finish their plan to hurt Rand further Davos assured her he was her friend. Meachum asked what Davos did with the bowl and asked if she could sell it back. Suddenly, Davos' new disciples arrived to be trained.[21]
Meachum walked into Eden Towers later to find Davos training them, but BB being reluctant to fight. When BB left, she approached and told him to hand over a paper in his hand. She saw the paper contained Chen Wu's car. She warned BB not to cross Davos because of how dangerous it is. She walked back inside only to be startled by Davos who wanted to know why she came back. She explained that she wanted to be a better person. Davos was suspicious because Meachum was scared of him. He asked why she would trust him if she was afraid. She told him it was because he needed her as much as she needed him. As they walked together, she claimed he was a good man. Meachum then showed him the paper of the car and ripped it in half. He then apologized for doubting her despite the fact that she lied to his face.
She then called Ward and asked him to take control of her solar panel company, but did not tell him that she asked because she thought Davos would kill her. She then witnessed BB get locked up for defying Ryhno. Joy decided to break him out if they find something to take Davos' Iron Fist away. They found some beat up bricks and concluded it was in there. Suddenly, Davos returned and Joy went to distract him while BB dug through the brick. She told him to take it to Chikara Dojo. Joy approached Davos, who thought she had misled him. He talked about people plaguing the city and how they had to be stopped. When Davos left, she was approached by Wu, who was even more suspicious of her. He warned her not to fight him.[15]

It makes sense that you hang out with a bunch of teenagers, because any adult, one-eyed sycophants excluded, would instantly see how full of shit you are."

With BB gone, Davos knew it had to be Meachum as she was the only one there. She tried to divert the conversation, saying she sent someone to the FBI and they are coming. Chen Wu grew worried, but Davos thought she was bluffing. Davos realized that Danny Rand put her up to it. Meachum said that was not true, but Davos should have the fist taken away. Crank arrived warning Davos of Triads coming. Wu asked what they should do with Meachum and Davos walked up to Meachum saying the reason why she thinks that is how she was raised. Meachum claimed she was the only one left who knew Davos, asking if that was really what he wanted. He told her he never had greater clarity, then pushed her off the balcony.
Meachum woke up with blood pouring from her head. She was slow to get up as she groaned in pain. She tried to call for help, but was approached by Wu. Meachum claimed that there was no way he could buy into Davos. Wu admitted to first driving to save himself, but he now followed Davos. Meachum claimed to be better off than him, despite being near dead. She then told Wu the day was young before nodding off. She woke up later to see Misty Knight, who was soon attacked by Wu. Ward Meachum showed up in the nick of time to shoot Wu. He then carried Joy away. Joy asked where he got the gun, Ward replied from a van by the river.[22]

In the ambulance, Joy talked to Ward Meachum and regretted hurting Danny Rand. Ward apologized to her, saying he held onto the idea that he had a choice in Joy's decisions. He told her he would always be there for her. Ward then told her he was going to be a father. She had no idea how to respond.
At home, Walker broke in and Meachum hid. She came out and gave Walker the money, but armed herself with a gun despite having a crutch. They decided to pretend like they did not know each other, but Walker backed out saying that she helped Rand. She revealed that there was a third alter that helped her escape Sokovia. Meachum claimed she was not scared, but was lying. Walker claimed that the alter's trigger was a gun pointed at her heart, which convinced Meachum to lower her side arm. Walker said that she was keeping ties with Meachum as she was one of the few that knew both sides of her.[23]
Personality[]
Joy is a woman who feels she has no control over her own destiny. Given a company in her father's will and forced to work a job she was terrible at, she fought tooth and nail to climb the ranks and gain respect from her co-workers, learning business solely for that reason.
In the business room, Joy has a steely strong personality, but outside of it, she is constantly searching herself, prone to bouts of staring and hesitation. Joy can also be quite timid around others and will only believe someone when shown definitive proof. She even regretted drugging Danny Rand and leaving him to be taken to Birch Psychiatric Hospital, since Joy held a strong belief; who he really was. In truth, Rand became a reminder of the family members that she had lost and the goodness in herself that she suppressed and the morality that she tries to ignore for the sake of business.
On the bright side, Joy is an expert detective and extremely resourceful. Every time she wants something done, she proves that she is more capable of it than even her brother, Ward; proving to her father that she was a far more worthy successor to his legacy.
Joy is abhorrent of dishonesty, which caused her to push away her brother, Ward and Danny for lying about Harold being alive, even when they explained that they were doing so to keep her away from the Hand. Despite walking out on her father after discovering his ruthless and manipulative nature in betraying Danny; after the latter had helped him escape the Hand, Joy later came to regret turning her back on her father right before his death. Leaving the company, she would grow to harbor a deep resentment to Danny Rand for "ruining her life", more than eager to accept Davos' offer to kill him whereas before she would have been repulsed at the very thought; such as when she would not approve of her father and Danny's plans to kill Bakuto and the Hand.

As Walker entered inside, thinking the apartment was empty, Meachum explained that the gun was in case it was Davos coming for her, but then warned Walker not to approach her, threatening her with the gun.
