"She can see the future, and I don't even have the power to know what she's feeling. At least when she would draw, I'd have a window into her world."
―Polly Hinton[src]

Polly Hinton is the wife of Charles Hinton and the mother of Robin Hinton.

Biography[]

Family Life[]

"Charles left in the night, and he didn't take anything but a jacket. He left because he would never be able to hold his little girl again. At least, not without her crying and screaming and seeing death."
―Polly Hinton to Daisy Johnson[src]

Polly married Charles Hinton and they had a child named Robin. One night, Charles was exposed to Terrigen Mist, turning him into an Inhuman. His power was that anybody he touches sees a death that cannot be changed. Soon, he could not take it anymore because he could never hold his daughter again. He left without telling his family.[1]

Meeting Daisy Johnson[]

"The visions started coming true."
"Did he ever try to stop them from happening?"
"Of course! Of course he tried... over and over. That's what sent him over the edge, I guess. He couldn't make a difference... not one. He was powerless."
―Polly Hinton and Daisy Johnson[src]

In 2016, Polly was called by Daisy Johnson who had an encounter with Charles Hinton where she saw a death. Determined to stop the death from happening, Johnson asked Polly questions to which she answered in tears.[1]

Pariah[]

Polly began to be treated as a pariah because her daughter Robin Hinton was a latent Inhuman. Daisy Johnson gave a generous donation to Polly which she used to move her family to a new location where they could be treated more fairly.[2]

Clandestine Meeting[]

At least once a week, Polly and her daughter Robin would sit in a park. One day, Polly and Robin arrived early as they were expecting the arrival of Quake; Polly thanked Quake for the money that she had provided so that the Hintons could move to another place. While Polly spoke, Quake gave Robin a carving of a bird created by Charles. Quake then told Polly that she wanted to introduce her to a friend of hers who likes animals and has a practice nearby. Polly then watched as Quake suddenly walked away and disappeared into an alley.[2]

Aiding Leo Fitz[]

"She doesn't say much at all. Not since Terrigenesis. I found her in a state just like her father."
"She was way too young to go through that."
"Her mind has been scattered. Past, present, future... it's all the same to her, all mixed up. Sometimes, she doesn't even know I'm her mother."
―Polly Hinton and Leo Fitz[src]

Robin Hinton underwent Terrigenesis and developed a power similar to her father's where she sees the future, but does not often share it. She stopped talking a lot, but was met by a Chronicom named Enoch, who saw her powers as a prophecy. With Robin's word, he sent S.H.I.E.L.D. into the future to stop the earth from being destroyed.

All of S.H.I.E.L.D. was sent except for Leo Fitz, whom Robin did not include in her prophecy. Polly was in the park with Robin when Fitz walked up to her along with Lance Hunter and Enoch. Fitz tried to get answers from Robin on why he was not sent with the rest of the team. Robin replied saying it was because he had to save them. Suddenly, officials arrived and Enoch stunned them so they could escape. They were brought to the Lighthouse where Fitz froze himself in order to get to the future. Enoch offered to protect Fitz, so Hunter offered to protect the Hintons.[3]

Protective Custody[]

Polly and Robin Hinton were soon put into protective custody so that they could be safe from threats. As they stayed there for weeks, Robin started to become very quiet and removed from society. She barely talked to Polly.[4]

Search for Phil Coulson[]

"Robin clearly has a connection with you."
"I, uh... don't know if I can explain it. I don't fully understand it myself."
"You don't have to. I've seen the drawings. I know that I'm not in them. If anything happens to me..."
―Polly Hinton and Melinda May[src]

Weeks later, Polly was found by S.H.I.E.L.D., who needed her help to find Phil Coulson. Daisy Johnson greeted Polly and apologized for taking them out of hiding. Polly was just happy to see that Leo Fitz was able to get them home safe. Polly then told Johnson about Robin's removal from her life as she seemed to be in her own mind.

Johnson tried to talk to her, but was unsuccessful. Polly then witnessed Robin breaking the spell and talking to Melinda May. To Polly's surprise, Robin called May "mom" and hugged her, breaking Polly's heart. Robin then said she knew Flint would get them back. With May's help, Robin was able to draw the location of Coulson and Glenn Talbot. As they walked out, Polly admitted that she did not understand what happened, but she knew she was not in any of Robin's drawings. May told her she was going to be okay. Robin then asked for Polly to sit with her.[4]

Attacked by Glenn Talbot[]

"I'm here. You're doing good. Don't help him."
"But if I don't, this will be the last time I see you."
―Polly Hinton and Robin Hinton[src]

Polly and Robin Hinton walked into their Lighthouse room when they found Glenn Talbot looking at Robin's drawings. Polly was hesitant at first, but allowed him to stay. Talbot tried to talk to Robin, who barely said anything. He was clearly on edge as he was pacing around the room. Suddenly, he charged at Polly and put her in a choke hold. Polly screamed and told Robin to run, but she did not. Polly was then choked by Talbot, who took Robin.[5]

Saved by S.H.I.E.L.D.[]

"Thank God you're here."
"You okay?"
"Yeah. Robin?"
"Don't worry. We have her."
―Polly Hinton and Alphonso Mackenzie[src]

Polly woke up and was taken by Daisy Johnson to seek shelter with Tony Caine. Polly and Robin Hinton stayed there.[6] Despite this, she was found by Graviton and taken. On the Quinjet, Talbot talked to Robin, asking if she saw him ripping the Earth apart to get something from the ground.[7]

Talbot then talked to Robin, trying to get her to say where the Gravitonium was by pointing to it on a globe. However, Robin refused, causing Talbot to threaten her. Robin said he would not go through with his threat. Polly then told Robin how good of a job she was doing and reminded her to not help him. Robin then said if she did not help, this would be the last time they saw each other. Polly was then grabbed and taken away by the Remorath.

Polly was kept in the detention center of the ship. Later, she heard someone yelling her name. She yelled to where she was and was helped out by Alphonso Mackenzie. Polly asked if Robin was safe, which he said yes to. Suddenly, the Remorath arrived. Mackenzie got in front of Polly and said to run; however, there was no where to go. As the Remorath inched closer, Melinda May and Leo Fitz came up from behind and defeated them. The group made it out of the ship where Polly reunited with Robin. The Hintons then quickly made their way down the stairs. However half way through, Robin stopped, saying that something was different. Robin proved correct as S.H.I.E.L.D. was able to stop Graviton and save the world.[8]
