Taylor was among the members of staff at the New York Bulletin who were called for a meeting by their editor Mitchell Ellison, who informed the team that reports were coming in of a series of explosions across Hell's Kitchen. Needing more information from reliable sources, Ellison ordered Taylor to call public works and see if gas or methane was responsible.[1]
