Iran, officially the Islamic Republic of Iran, is a country in western Asia.

History

Winter Soldier

Iran was the birthplace of a nuclear engineer that Natasha Romanoff was escorting in Odessa, Ukraine. The Winter Soldier attacked them, and while Romanoff attempted to protect the engineer, Winter Soldier shot through her stomach and killed the engineer.[1]

U.S. Senate Armed Forces Committee

Iran, along with other countries and organizations from all over the world, tried to develop a suit similar to the Iron Man Armors.

Tony Stark showed a video of some of the failed attempts to the Senate Armed Forces Committee, being the Iranian one of them, in order to prove that their excuse of the development of similar suits over the world was not an imminent threat that required handing over the Iron Man armor for military application.[2]

Black Market

According to Tony Stark, Iran could have been one of the potential purchasers of Ivan Vanko's Arc Reactor technology. Even although the technology has flaws, such as half of the rotations it could have, or an inefficient use as a channels of ionized plasma, the price would have been high.[2]

Jericho Bootleg

Iran was one of the potential buyers of missing bootleg Starktech from Hammer Industries that Russian arms dealers Mikhail Fjodorov and General Starodoub managed to obtain. They sent one of the members of their intelligence services under the identity of Mohammed Yavari, the owner of a series of Internet cafes in Tehran, to acquire that technology, a copy of the Jericho missile.

S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Natasha Romanoff attempts to acquire that technology managed to prevent the deal.[3]

The Mandarin

Iran, along with the Far East, Europe, North Africa, Pakistan and Syria, was one of the places guessed by Tony Stark to be the probable location of the Mandarin's broadcast signal when J.A.R.V.I.S. factored in available A.I.M. downlink facilities, until being informed by J.A.R.V.I.S. that the actual location was Miami, Florida.[4]

Winter Soldier

In 2009, Natasha Romanoff was tasked with escorting a nuclear engineer out of Iran. Upon reaching the city of Odessa in Ukraine, they were attacked by the Winter Soldier, who made them lose control of their vehicle and fall off a cliff.

Romanoff managed to pulled the engineer and herself out, but the Winter Soldier, who was waiting for them, shot through Romanoff's stomach and killed the engineer.[5]
