"Find an excuse to let one of these off the chain, and I personally guarantee you the bad guys won't even want to come out of their caves. For your consideration, the Jericho."
Tony Stark[src]

The Jericho were repulsor missiles created by the Stark Industries to assist the United States Armed Forces in Afghanistan.

History[]

Production[]

"You see, Eloise, two weeks from now, I'm scheduled to go to Afghanistan and test a weapon so secret that I can't even tell you its name."
"What is its name?"
"The Jericho project."
Tony Stark and Eloise[src]

One Jericho missile was developed by Stark Industries for the United States Armed Forces. Tony Stark was meant to display the missile's capabilities to Air Force observers attending a demonstration in Afghanistan,[1] during which the missile blew up several cave openings.[3] While there, he was ambushed by the Ten Rings and held captive in order to build them a Jericho missile. However, Stark built an armored suit instead from Jericho missile parts and escaped.

Taken Out of Production[]

Obadiah Stane later sold Jericho missiles to the Ten Rings which were then destroyed by Iron Man. Stark saw the way the missiles were being used in battle and killed Stane, ceasing production of the weapon.[1]

Alternate Universe Versions[]

Presented to the Military[]

"They say the best weapon is one you never have to fire. I prefer the one you only have to fire once."
Tony Stark[src]

Stark Industries shipped a Jericho missile to Afghanistan so that Tony Stark could demonstrate its abilities in field conditions. A missile was loaded into a missile launcher at a safe distance from the presentation. Stark launched the missile, with the warhead breaking apart in the air into smaller missiles. The smaller missiles hit the crest of a mountain and blew up.

Stark was kidnapped by the Ten Rings, who attempted to force him to rebuild the Jericho out of materials they had bought from Stark Industries. However, Stark instead built an armored suit which he used to escape.

The Ten Rings bought another Jericho missile from Stark Industries and brought it to the village Gulmira. However, Stark arrived and destroyed the missile, fighting the insurgents present.[4]

Killmonger's War[]

"I want all Jericho missiles locked and loaded by 0600."
Thaddeus Ross[src]

In an alternate universe, Erik Killmonger rescued Tony Stark in Afghanistan, and Stark spent time in his lab attempting to miniaturize the Jericho into a portable firearm. Thaddeus Ross gave the order to bomb Wakanda using Jericho missiles, kicking off the American-Wakandan War.[5]

Design and Capabilities[]

Jericho Missile (2nd stage launch)
"It's the first missile system to incorporate our proprietary repulsor technology. They say the best weapon is one you never have to fire. I respectfully disagree. I prefer the weapon you only have to fire once."
Tony Stark[src]

The Jericho is "hot-launched" (The missile's rocket booster fires during launch), and clears the launcher. Upon reaching a preset distance, the Jericho missile casing is blown off, launching sixteen separate, self-seeking MIRVs with their own tracking and guidance systems. The MIRVs then ignite their own engines, and, depending on target settings, will either cluster around the central missile or split off to track their own targets. The central missile's boosters burn out and use inertial and GPS guidance to drop towards its target.

The MIRVs impact onto the target, detonating their small first-impact warheads. In less than a second later, the main warhead detonates, usually resulting in three, massive explosions close together.
