"I see you with the Avengers, and, well..."
"You don't think they need me?"
"Actually, I think they do. They're gods, and they need someone to keep them down to Earth."
―Laura Barton and Clint Barton[src]

Laura Barton is the wife of Hawkeye and the mother of their three children. She strongly supported his role within the Avengers team throughout his career and during the Ultron Offensive.

"Fury helped me set this up when I joined. He kept it off S.H.I.E.L.D.'s files, I'd like to keep it that way."

Laura Barton is the wife of Clint Barton. Because of Clint's dangerous job, Director Nick Fury ensured she was not recorded on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s files, so she would not be in danger of any of Clint's or S.H.I.E.L.D.'s enemies. Laura and Clint moved into Clint's Homestead where they could live off the grid.

Laura and Clint had two children together, Cooper and Lila, and would later have a third, Nathaniel.

Laura is a close friend of Natasha Romanoff, whom Clint brought into S.H I.E.L.D., and she is one of the few people who knew the location of their home. Laura and Clint's third child is named Nathaniel, the masculine form of Natasha, after her, and Lila knows her as "Auntie Nat".[1]

Unexpected Guests

Laura meets the Avengers

"This is an agent of some kind."
"Gentlemen, this is Laura."
"I know all of your names."

Clint decided to take the team to his safe house where Ultron could not find them and lay low. When they entered the house, they were greeted by Laura; no one on the team except Romanoff knew about her existence. Laura was aware of all of the Avengers' names. When Romanoff asked about Laura's upcoming baby who was going to be called 'Natasha', Laura informed her that the baby is a 'Nathaniel' meaning they were having a boy. Natasha looked at Laura's belly and said traitor.[1]

Concern for Hawkeye

Laura talks with her husband

"You think they don't need me?"
"I think they do, which is a lot scarier. They're a mess."
"Yeah, I guess they're my mess."
"You need to be sure. That this team is really a team."

In private, Laura told her husband that if the Avengers were going to stay there at the homestead, many would have to sleep together in the same room. She wondered how long Romanoff and Banner had been seeing one another; when Clint denied it, Laura jokingly called him "Hawkeye" for not seeing the relationship. Laura then expressed to her husband that even though she is proud of him, she is concerned if he should stay with the Avengers.

Clint initially thought that Laura believed the Avengers did not need him, but Laura revealed that she felt they needed him too much, as the others' teamwork left a lot to be desired and she did not believe they would support him and the work he did for them. As Laura felt Clint's chest, she told him that she can feel the difference as his body has been repaired by the Cradle. While Steve Rogers and Tony Stark chopped the wood and got into an argument, Laura went to Stark and asked if he could take a look at their tractor. When Nick Fury appeared in the barn to talk to Stark, Stark knew that Laura had set up the meeting and called her a "little minx".[1]

Saying Goodbye

Laura kisses Clint goodbye

"I’m gonna finish re-flooring that sunroom as soon as I get back."
"Yeah, and then you’ll find another part of the house to tear apart."
"No. It’s the last project. I promise."

As the Avengers prepared to leave to find Ultron, Clint said goodbye to Laura and promised her that this will be his last mission with the Avengers and vowed that he would return and finish redecorating the house. Laura stood outside and watched the Avengers as they departed to go to Seoul to search for Ultron and the Maximoff twins.

Laura watches as the Avengers leave

When Clint was collecting his uniform and weaponry to ready for the upcoming battle with Ultron, he took a moment to look at a photograph of his family to remind himself of why he was fighting. After the Avengers' battle with Ultron, Clint returned to his family, retiring from the Avengers to be with them and to help Laura with raising their children. Soon after, Laura gave birth to their second son whom they named Nathaniel Pietro Barton out of respect for Quicksilver and Natasha Romanoff. While Black Widow is at the New Avengers Facility, the Bartons set up a video call with her to show her their new child.[1]

Laura and Clint had been intending to take their children water-skiing before Clint was called in by Captain America to retrieve Scarlet Witch from the New Avengers Facility and their trip canceled. Following the Clash of the Avengers, Clint was imprisoned in the Raft, however he was freed by Captain America.[2] Declaring he was officially retired, Clint returned to Laura and their children in the farm.[3]

"You know I completely support your avenging; I couldn’t be prouder."
―Laura Barton to Clint Barton[src]
Laura Barton is a perceptive woman, noticing the potential growing relationship between Natasha Romanoff and Bruce Banner before her husband Clint did. She is very supportive of her husband's job; however, she does worry. Laura cares for her family and friends, and was willing to invite the other Avengers into her home despite not knowing them personally because of their relationship to Clint and Natasha.

  • In the comics, Laura only exists within the Ultimate Marvel universe. In that universe, Laura, along with her three children, was murdered by a black ops team that was led by a traitor within the Ultimates (the Ultimate Marvel counterparts of the Avengers).
