List of Undeveloped Movies

The following is a list of the movies considered to be in various stages of development by Marvel Studios, based upon different Marvel Comic Book Series and properties.

Alien Legion

In 2009, Carl Potts confirmed that a film adaptation of Alien Legion had been optioned and the script was in its third rewrite. Derek Haas revealed that he and writing partner Michael Brandt had been reworking the Alien Legion script for Jerry Bruckheimer and Disney.

Black Panther 2

On March 9, 2018, Kevin Feige revealed that there are plans to make a sequel to Black Panther.

Blade

In 2011, the rights to the character Blade were reverted back to Marvel. On June 26, 2017, Kevin Feige (along with the film division of Marvel) had expressed interest in using Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe stating "We think it would be cool, Someday". Similarly, Spider-Man: Homecoming director Jon Watts has stated that he not only wants to use Morbius the Living Vampire but also Eric Brooks / Blade in a future sequel.

Cable

In 2009, Marvel assembled a group of screenwriters to write film scripts for lesser-known characters from the comics such as Black Panther, Cable, Doctor Strange, Iron Fist, Nighthawk and Vision.

The post credit scene in Deadpool announced Cable's appearance in the sequel.

Captain Britain

In an interview with Hey U Guys, Kevin Feige stated that Marvel Studios has discussed bringing Brian Braddock / Captain Britain to the Marvel Cinematic Universe stating "We have discussed it. There are a lot of actors that come in and ask for the part so we"ll have to see".

On May 10, 2018, Simon Pegg expressed interest on playing Brian Braddock / Captain Britain.

On September 10, 2018, an unspecified source called "Super Grip" told Ain't It Cool News that Marvel Studios has booked space at Pinewood Studios UK in November and December 2018 to hold auditions for a project called Captain Britain and the Black Knight.

Doctor Strange 2

On June 28, 2018, Kevin Feige revealed that there are plans to make a sequel to Doctor Strange.

On April 31, 2018, C. Robert Cargill confirmed that the main villain of the planned sequel is Nightmare.

Eternals

On April 24, 2018, Kevin Feige revealed that the Eternals is one of many films that the studio is actively having creative discussions about.

On May 15, 2018, Marvel Studios hired Ryan and Matthew K. Firpo to pen the script.

On September 21, 2018, it was reported that Chloé Zhao will be directing the film.

Gargoyle

In 2006, a live-action film based on Gargoyle was being developed by Marvel. However, no further developments have been announced to date.

Hawkeye

A Hawkeye film was being planned at one point.

Iron Man 4

In 2014, the release date was likely going to be before 2018. Although sources said that Robert Downey, Jr. would most likely be replaced by another actor, due to his age and he will remain as a producer for the movie.

On July 23, 2014, it was reported that Robert Downey Jr. has expressed interest in returning as Tony Stark for a fourth solo Iron Man movie.

Ironheart

On July 20, 2018, it was reported by various media outlets that Marvel Studios is developing a movie based on Riri Williams / Ironheart. The script was written by Jada Rodriguez and appeared on The Black List.

Ka-Zar

In 2010, Marvel Studios started taking meetings with writers and directors to work on small scale movies based on some of their third tier characters including Ka-Zar.

Loki

In 2013, Marvel co-president Louis D'Esposito considered making a stand-alone Loki one-shot, but said : "Being on Asgard is very difficult for us to do in a short. It's just impossible for us cost wise. The short would be 30 seconds, and it's over. One shot of Loki on Asgard."

Longshot

In 2000, Marvel Entertainment entered into a joint venture agreement with Artisan Entertainment to turn at least 15 Marvel superhero franchises into live-action films, television series, direct-to-video films and internet projects. These franchises included an adaptation of Longshot.

Moon Knight

On January 4, 2017, Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn revealed to fans on Twitter that he pitched a Moon Knight film to Marvel Studios though he noted he didn't have the time. Vincent D'Onofrio has also expressed interest in a Moon Knight movie. Previously Marc Spector / Moon Knight was rumored to be one of the 3 new Netflix shows in development along with Blade and Ghost Rider. On April 23, 2017 Kevin Feige revealed that Moon Knight is one of many characters being considered to enter the MCU at a later date.

Morbius the Living Vampire

In 2000, Marvel Entertainment entered into a joint venture agreement with Artisan Entertainment to turn at least 15 Marvel superhero franchises into live-action films, television series, direct-to-video films and internet projects. These franchises included an adaptation of Morbius. In an interview, Jon Watts has expressed interest in using Morbius the Living Vampire along with Blade in a Spider-Man sequel.

On November 13, 2017, Sony Pictures greenlit a movie based on Morbius the Living Vampire with a script penned by Buck Sharpless and Matt Sazama separate from Marvel Studios.

Mort the Dead Teenager

In 2000, Marvel Entertainment entered into a joint venture agreement with Artisan Entertainment to turn at least 15 Marvel superhero franchises into live-action films, television series, direct-to-video films and internet projects. These franchises included an adaptation of Mort the Dead Teenager.

Ms. Marvel

On May 12, 2018, Kevin Feige revealed in an interview with the BBC that Kamala Khan / Ms. Marvel was in development, saying "Captain Marvel's filming right now with Brie Larson, Ms. Marvel, which is another character in the comic books, the Muslim hero who is inspired by Captain Marvel, is definitely sort of in the works. We have plans for that once we introduce Captain Marvel."

Namor the Sub-Mariner

On June 3, 2014, Borys Kit confirmed that Marvel, not Universal Pictures now has the Namor film rights. On July 18, 2014, Kevin Feige told IGN in an interview that the Namor film rights are not with Universal and Legendary Pictures, but he explained there are a number of contracts and deals that need to be sorted out. On June 2, 2016, Marvel Chief Creative Office Joe Quesada told Kevin Smith on his Podcast that the Namor rights are now back with Marvel.

On February 16, 2017, Production Weekly listed The Sub-Mariner as a project going into production.

Nick Fury

Andrew W. Marlowe was hired to write the script in 2006. The script he wrote was loosely based on Jim Starenko's Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. series and involved the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier. The script was not written for the version of the character appearing in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as it was constructed before Samuel L. Jackson was cast but Marlowe said that the script could be "tweaked" for Jackson's portrayal.

Nighthawk

In 2009, Marvel assembled a group of screenwriters to write film scripts for lesser-known characters including Nighthawk. The character of Jackson Norriss appeared in the Marvel One-Shot: All Hail the King as a member of the Ten Rings. In the comics, Norriss is one of the Nighthawk alter egos.

Nova

On April 22, 2018, Kevin Feige revealed that a film based on the character Nova had "immediate potential" at Marvel Studios.

Power Pack

In 2000, Marvel Entertainment entered into a joint venture agreement with Artisan Entertainment to turn at least 15 Marvel superhero franchises into live-action films, television series, direct-to-video films and internet projects. These franchises included an adaptation of Power Pack.

A live-action film based on the Power Pack was reportedly being in development by Marvel in 2006.

However, in 2010, Marvel Studios started taking meetings with writers and directors to work on small scale movies based on some of their third tier characters including Power Pack.

On September 18, 2017, various media outlets reported that Marvel is revisiting Power Pack as a film with Jonathan Schwartz overseeing the film as a "Spy Kids-like" story.

On June 25, 2018, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige hasn’t completely lost all hope in bringing the family to life on the big screen, confirming his interest in adapting the property "someday."

Prime

In 2003, Marvel released an earnings report listing a Prime film as "to be determined".

Taskmaster

Joe Carnahan signed on to direct an adaptation of Taskmaster in 2008. Carnahan said that the film would "literally build this character's origin" and that it would "commence with the events following Taskmaster's severe beat down at the hands of Moon Knight.

The Hands of Shang-Chi

In 2001, Stephen Norrington announced that he had agreed to direct a film based on The Hands of Shang-Chi: Master of Kung Fu, a film adaptation based on the Marvel character Shang-Chi. Norrington described the film as "a real honest-to-goodness martial arts film, rather than a film that simply has martial arts in it". In 2004, it was announced that Ang Lee had been brought on as producer. In 2005, it was announced that Stan Lee had agreed to executive produce the film for DreamWorks, with Yuen Woo-ping directing from a Bruce McKenna screenplay. In 2005, Avi Arad stated that he thought that a PG-13 adaptation was possible. In 2006, Ang Lee confirmed his and Yuen's continued involvement with the project. However, no further developments have been announced to date.

The Incredible Hulk 2

A sequel to The Incredible Hulk has been in development since the film's release in 2008. Kevin Feige said that Hulk would return after The Avengers. Tim Roth is contracted for three more films, and Tim Blake Nelson is signed on to reprise Samuel Sterns, taking the form of the Leader, following some undue exposure to a sample of synthesized, gamma-irradiated blood.

Louis Leterrier said that he was open to directing a sequel. However, on April 12th, 2012, Kevin Feige confirmed that no sequel is currently in development, although he didn't rule out the possibility that a sequel might be developed in the future. It was later announced that another Hulk film would be released in 2015 based on the success of the upcoming Hulk TV show; while this is likely a sequel to The Incredible Hulk, this was not specifically said so, and this could be interpreted as being a film relating to the TV show rather than the film series.

Lou Ferrigno said in an interview posted May 2, 2014 that The Incredible Hulk 2 would take place after Avengers: Age of Ultron.

On October 28, 2014, during a Question & Answer session at a Marvel live event, Kevin Feige stated that the Hulk will have a prominent role in many Phase Three movies, particularly the Avengers: Infinity War two-parter (with Mark Ruffalo already signed), but a solo film or sequel is not planned.

In April 2015, Mark Ruffalo revealed the fact that Universal owns the film distribution rights to the Hulk and this may be an obstacle to releasing a future Hulk standalone film.

Thor 4

On January 11, 2018, it was reported by Marvel Studios News that Chris Hemsworth and Taika Waititi had talked about a potential sequel to Thor: Ragnarok.

Vision

In 2009, Marvel assembled a group of screenwriters to write film scripts for lesser-known characters such as Black Panther, Cable, Doctor Strange, Iron Fist, Nighthawk and Vision.

War Machine

In January 2011, Don Cheadle confirmed that a War Machine film was in development.

Werewolf by Night

In 2004, Robert Nelson Jacobs was hired by Crystal Sky to write an adaptation of Werewolf by Night. The film was due to begin filming in 2005, but no further developments took place.

Warriors Three

In 2011, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said about a Warriors Three film: “You never know. What's fun to me about the Warriors Three is that people seem to like them. People like the way that they were presented in this movie, and their main note might be, 'I want to see more of them.' I think that for ‘Thor 2,’ if we should be so lucky, that there's an opportunity for that. But you never know.”
