Maria Hill's Field Office was a S.H.I.E.L.D. facility in a classified location that served as Hill's center of operations.

History

Interview with Grant Ward

Deputy Director Maria Hill interviewed agent Grant Ward following a successful mission to retrieve a Chitauri Neural Link in Paris. She asked what S.H.I.E.L.D. meant to him, and first he answered with the meaning of the acronym, joking that it was done on purpose so that it could spell out the word "Shield". Ward, seeing that this answer did not please Hill, told her he thought that S.H.I.E.L.D. protected people from information they should not know, and kept them safe if that was not possible.

They briefly discussed about the recovered Chitauri from technology from Vanchat, and the Rising Tide's involvement, as they changed from simple hacker along with the whole world since the Battle of New York, as that now was a new world where people had access to technology they were not meant to.

Ward asked the reason why he was pulled out from Paris, and when Hill told him it was at the request of agent Phil Coulson, Ward said he knew that Coulson died before the Battle of New York, but Coulson himself appeared and revealed to be alive.[1]

Phil Coulson's Team

Phil Coulson, Grant Ward and Maria Hill discussed how Director Nick Fury seemingly faked his death to motivate the Avengers as an effective team builder and they were not informed of his survival due to lacking the appropriate Clearance Level, but Coulson assured that he was dead and stopped breathing for about 40 seconds, and once he abandoned the I.C.U., he was sent to Tahiti in order to recover.

The reason he returned was the appearance of an unregistered man with superpowers that the Rising Tide was able to locate before S.H.I.E.L.D., so Coulson requisitioned the formation of a Mobile Command Unit assigning agents Ward, Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons. Coulson knew that despite being an excellent agent at combat and espionage, team work was not Ward's key strength, reading from Hill's detailed evaluation that his people skills were not as good as the other parameters.

Doctor Streiten appeared informing that the physicals for each team members were correct and the team was approved, even though agents Fitz and Simmons were not cleared for combat. Hill and Streiten discussed Coulson's return with him, if he was sure it was the time for him to return to active duty, and Coulson recommended Hill to go to Tahiti sometime, as it was a "magical place". When Coulson left, Streiten and Hill discussed how Coulson did not remembered the truth behind his survival, and that he should never know.[1]

Recruitment of Melinda May

Phil Coulson approached his colleague and old friend Melinda May in order to ask her to join his newly created team. May, who dropped from field missions to become an administrator following an incident in Bahrain, tried to refuse the offer.[1]

Coulson's Team First Mission

Phil Coulson reported to Maria Hill the success of his first mission along with his team, and how they managed to stabilize Michael Peterson before he exploded due to the Extremis in his blood.[1]

Trivia

  • Given that S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters has been mentioned in almost every episode after the Pilot, it's possible that Maria Hill's Field Office is located inside S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters; it could also be located in the Triskelion, which is also referred to as S.H.I.E.L.D. Headquarters. Given that her office is called a field office, it is also possible it could be a separate facility out in the "field".
