"They have a mountain full of it."
Ulysses Klaue[src]

Mount Bashenga is a mountain in Wakanda. Named after the warrior shaman of the same name, the mountain is primary source of Wakanda's precious vibranium supply.

History[]

Formation[]

Vibranium Meteor

The vibranium meteorite which would create Mount Bashenga

More than two million years ago, a massive vibranium meteorite crashed on Earth in what would eventually become Wakanda. Over the intervening millennia, the meteorite formed a mountain rich with the powerful mineral.

The mountain was named for the warrior-shaman Bashenga who united the Wakandan Tribes under his rule, ending thousands of years of war for control of vibranium.[1]

The Great Mound and the vibranium beneath Mount Bashenga

"Ulysses Klaue stole a quarter ton of vibranium from us and triggered a bomb at the border to escape. Many lives were lost. He knew where we hid the Vibranium and how to strike."
T'Chaka to N'Jobu[src]

Wakandans soon began to exploit the Vibranium deposits within the mountain, building an active mine which became known as the Great Mound. They extracted tons of Vibranium from the mountain and used it to create advanced technology, although they kept it for themselves and never shared the riches of Mount Bashenga with the outer world. A massive panther statue was carved at one of the entrances of the Great Mound.

However, Prince N'Jobu, a Wakandan spy, was sensitive to the hardships of the world beyond the borders of Wakanda. Thus, he intended to share Vibranium with oppressed people and disclosed the location of Wakanda and Mount Bashenga to Ulysses Klaue. Klaue successfully raided Mount Bashenga and stole a quarter ton of Vibranium, killing several people in the process.

Shuri's Lab was also located beneath the surface of Mount Bashenga, with a massive bay window open to the massive Vibranium supplies of the mountain. Everett Ross was taken there in order to be healed from his gun wound, and admired the depths of Mount Bashenga when he regained consciousness, realizing that Wakanda held much more important Vibranium resources than what was officially known.[1]

Battle of Mount Bashenga[]

Erik Killmonger, son of the deceased Prince N'Jobu, followed his father's ideas about sharing Vibranium with the rest of the world. He seized the throne of Wakanda and intended to trigger a global revolution by giving would-be rebels access to the vast supplies of Mount Bashenga. Killmonger gathered several weapons from the Great Mound and intended to send them to the world.
