History
Project Distant Star Return
- "NASA was always curious about the Monolith."
- ―Will Daniels[src]
In 2001, Gideon Malick was consulting for NASA. He advised to use the Monolith to travel to the Maveth, a planet on the other side of the portal.[1] Jane Thompson and Luther Banks assisted him in the project.[2] NASA sent an astronaut, Will Daniels, and three scientists, Taylor, Brubaker, and Austin, through the portal to survey the planet on until a rescue team could come to retrieve them. However, the three scientists were killed by something Daniels called "It". The portal was never reopened and Daniels was alone on Maveth. [3] That expedition was secretly orchestrated by a HYDRA cell led by Malick who was trying to bring the thing, Hive, back to Earth.[1] The facility of the project was eventually abandoned.[2]
Project Valhalla
Using the alias Jane Thompson, Rosalind Price worked for NASA on Project Valhalla, a short-lived initiative designed to detect useful or hazardous alien assets before they entered Earth's atmosphere.[4]
Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S.
NASA worked with S.H.I.E.L.D. at the Joint Dark Energy Mission Facility in the Mojave Desert to research the Tesseract, along with Erik Selvig, to attempt to create an object with unlimited self-sustaining energy. When Loki arrived and began the Destruction of Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S., a NASA Scientist hid from the chaos. [5]
