"Do you see an Earth that can be saved? It's too late. It's already been quaked apart."
Deke Shaw to Daisy Johnson

Orientation Part Two is the second episode of the fifth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Synopsis[]

Coulson and the team find themselves stranded on a mysterious ship in outer space, and that's just the beginning of the nightmare to come.

Plot[]

After their shocking discovery about being sent into a future where Earth was destroyed, Jemma Simmons and Melinda May bring back the Trawler to the Lighthouse where they are reunited with Phil Coulson and Deke Shaw. The group is later met by Tess, a friend of Virgil, who was told about the presence of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. Tess remains with half of the team while Deke goes to find Quake, Alphonso Mackenzie and Yo-Yo Rodriguez, only to discover that they killed two Kree guards, much to his horror, and he helps them hiding the bodies. Tess explains the situation to the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents: Earth was destroyed by a cataclysmic event and the Kree arrived shortly after, taking over the Lighthouse in which the survivors had gathered.

Quake finds Deke Shaw inside the Framework

Tess takes Coulson to Virgil's room where Coulson discovers Virgil's journal. Meanwhile, May and Simmons attend a food distribution. A fight erupts between two survivors and Reese, one of the human servants of the Kree, is wounded. Simmons tends to the wound with May's assistance and Sinara, the leader of the Kree Watch, orders her to be taken away. May finds Coulson and Tess and reports the event, after which they are reunited with the rest of the team and Deke. Quake decides to follow Deke to try to discover where Simmons was taken and finds herself in some sort of recreational space where Deke uses parts of the Framework technology to generate visions of what the Earth looked like in the past. After an argument, Deke reveals the cause of Earth's destruction in this future: Quake herself.

Coulson and the others manage to steal a Kree tablet possibly containing valuable information, but then notice that people are gathering in the corridors under Kree supervision. Feeling that having no Metrics could be a problem, Coulson asks Grill, whom he met before, to implant the devices on them in exchange for the tablet. Tess tells May that the event is a Renewal: some low-earners will have to fight to the death and kill for their survival. One of them, Holt, finds Coulson, Mackenzie, and Rodriguez but he is stopped by May and eventually killed by Tess, who claims she had no other option.

Orientation Part Two 6

Jemma Simmons is brought to Kasius

Simmons is taken to upper levels of the Lighthouse and brought to Kasius, the Lighthouse's ruler. Kasius interrogates Simmons about what happened during the food distribution and discovers that she does not have a Metric. When Reese is brought to them, Kasius cannot help but notice that his wounds, even if well treated, will remain visible, especially the one on his forehead. Deciding that he cannot have a servant who is not perfect, Kasius has Sinara kill him. The Kree then extracts the Silencing Implant out of Reese's ear and injects it into Simmons', making her deaf and recruiting her as his new servant.
