The film has a yet to be announced release date. James Gunn stated that the film would be one of the 2020 releases,[11] although it was later confirmed to have no scheduled release date.[12]

Trivia

  • The future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe post-Phase Three was confirmed in a set of three announcements by Marvel Studios, the first two in 2014 and the latter in 2017.
    • Kevin Feige announced in May 2014 that Marvel Studios had planned films for the next 14 years, up through 2028.[13]
    • During a later press conference in October 2014, Feige confirmed that Phase Three would run between 2016 to 2019. He confirmed that Phase Four, and even additional phases, had already been planned or were being planned by saying that "(if) there are more years after 2019, then there will be movies. I hope there will be more years."
    • In November 2017, Feige stated that there are currently 20 films that are planned to be made after Avengers 4.[14]
  • In November 2016, Kevin Feige stated that an Inhumans film could still happen in Phase Four.[15]
  • In April 2017, Kevin Feige stated that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is one of the films slated for release sometime after Avengers 4.[16]
    • In the weeks leading up to the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, James Gunn announced that he would return to write and direct its sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.[17]
      • However, in July 2018, Walt Disney Studios fired James Gunn from directing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 due to offensive tweets he posted on his Twitter between 2008 to 2012.[18] In August, production on the film was put on hold until a replacement director was found,[19] and by October, production was reportedly delayed to February 2021,[20] with Feige reiterating that production on the film was put on hold.[21]
    • Kevin Feige and James Gunn have stated that Adam Warlock will be very important to the cosmic side of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in the future.[22]
  • In April 2017, Kevin Feige announced that the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers 4 might not be named "Phase 4", but instead a different new concept.[23]
  • In June 2017, Kevin Feige announced that the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers 4 will be led by Spider-Man: Far From Home.[24]
