Roger Browning was a former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent who abandoned the agency following the HYDRA Uprising and started selling classified information. During a meeting to sell the Obelisk to Isabelle Hartley's team, Browning was assassinated by the Absorbing Man.
Roger Browning became an Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. and eventually became assigned to a containment facility that held various objects, including a collection of 0-8-4s. One of these items had a Level Ten clearance level file dedicated to it, making Nick Fury the only one who could access it. During the HYDRA Uprising Browning witnessed the 0-8-4s being taken away by the United States Armed Forces and locked by in a Government Storage Warehouse as S.H.I.E.L.D. fell.
- "You're selling us a needle in a haystack."
"Finding the haystack is up to you, I know your reputation; I'm sure you'll be fine. What I don't appreciate is you changing the terms on me now."
- ―Isabelle Hartley and Roger Browning
Using his unique knowledge of the many items S.H.I.E.L.D. once held, Browning started selling classified information to the highest bidders following the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D., no longer caring whether the bidder was in it for profit or a member of HYDRA as long as it was the highest bidder.
Browning was approached by Isabelle Hartley, Idaho and Lance Hunter, who were working undercover for the new S.H.I.E.L.D. led by Phil Coulson, about information concerning an 0-8-4 which held a Level ten clearance level. Coulson and Melinda May had hoped that he could be recruited or, at least, sell to them his technologies. Browning did not bring the 0-8-4, but a file on it. However during their meeting, they were attacked by Carl Creel who stole the file and killed Browning by breaking his neck.
