Simon was committed to Birch Psychiatric Hospital in 2014 after an incident at a pharmacy, and was diagnosed as bipolar with mixed affective episodes layered atop a substance abuse disorder.
Meeting Danny Rand[]
When Danny Rand was admitted to the facility, Simon posed as a member of the staff and attempted to kill Danny with a fork before being stopped by Nurse Smith and some orderlies. Later, he is assigned by Joe the orderly to be Danny's "Tour Guide." He explained why many people were there, as well as why he was there. Simon then called Dink brainless, prompting Dink to turn his anger on Rand and attack him. Rand pushed him away. He then talked with Rand when he woke up[1]
