―Dr. Streiten and Phil Coulson[src]

Doctor J. Streiten was a member of the S.H.I.E.L.D. medical staff assigned to the trauma center in Bethesda, before going off the grid.

Reviving CoulsonEdit

A few days after the Battle of New York, Director Nick Fury brought Dr. Streiten to the team of scientists tasked with reviving recently deceased Agent Phil Coulson. He was brought during the seventh operation, and they decided to keep Coulson conscious to monitor his brain activity.

After the trauma and pain that revealed that the procedure worked, a machine overwrote Coulson's memories of the operations with memories of a recovery in the island of Tahiti to restore his will to live and make him approach his former self.[1]

Streiten clears Coulson for active duty

When Phil Coulson first assembled his new team, Dr. Streiten was charged with the test to physically approve Coulson and the other members of the team for field work.

He also oversaw the team's first mission, to investigate the Rising Tide and the Hooded Hero. During this time, both he and Maria Hill showed concern about Coulson's status after his recovery in Tahiti after his death and his lack of awareness of the truth of the circumstances surrounding his death.[2]

Learning the TruthEdit

When Phil Coulson was kidnapped by members of the Centipede Project to learn the truth about the way he was revived after the Battle of New York, he uncovered some of the real memories of the procedures used to bring him back to life.

Streiten reveals the truth to Coulson

After being rescued, Coulson met Dr. Streiten, apparently the chief medical officer during the procedures. Streiten revealed the truth about Tahiti, and tearfully asked Coulson for forgiveness.[1]

When Agent Jemma Simmons tried to make contact with Dr. Streiten to ask him about the procedures used to revive Coulson, she was told that Streiten had gone off the grid.[3]
