Thomas Nash was once a candidate for S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Index and was believed to be the Clairvoyant. He was killed by S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Grant Ward.
Biography
Thomas Nash, a bond trader in Canada, was on S.H.I.E.L.D.'s radar for six years entering on the Index due his alleged psychic abilities. Later he was recruited to Department H, a top-secret sect that was recruiting people who could control other people's behavior through psychic abilities. Nash stayed catatonic for four years after having a head-on collision.
While chasing leads on the identity of the Clairvoyant, Agents Melinda May and Felix Blake were sent to Tranquility Bridge assisted living home in Macon, Georgia to determine if Nash was their target. While there, Blake was critically injured by Deathlok, prompting S.H.I.E.L.D. to make Nash their prime suspect.
Nash believed to be The Clairvoyant
Following the Tag Rounds implanted on Deathlok by Blake, Agent Phil Coulson led a raiding team consisting, in part, of Agents John Garrett and Grant Ward to an abandoned race track in Pensacola, Florida. With the assistance of the Golden Retrievers guided by Agent Leo Fitz, Coulson and Garrett find Nash in a room surrounded by computers.
He was killed by Agent Ward when the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were taunted to Ward's breaking point.[1]
As Agent Coulson argued with Agent Garrett about whether to sedate or kill Victoria Hand, if she proved to be the Clairvoyant, Thomas Nash was used as an example of an innocent killed by the Clairvoyant's manipulations. When it was discovered that John Garrett was the Clairvoyant and he was arrested to be transported to the Fridge, Agent Hand suggested to Agent Ward that Ward could now kill "the right man."[2]
Trivia
The quote "A bit dramatic for my taste" used by Thomas Nash is a reference to one of Victoria Hand's quotes in the episode The Hub. The writers of the show referenced it to make viewers believe that Hand was the actual Clairvoyant.
