Times Square is a major commercial intersection in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, at the junction of Broadway and Seventh Avenue and stretching from West 42nd to West 47th Streets.

History[]

World War II[]

On December 7, 1941, Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes attended an art lesson, when they learnt that the United States of America entered into World War II. Rogers discussed with Barnes the need to enlist, as Barnes tried to dissuade Rogers given his frail condition. Rogers asked Barnes to be his trainer, which Barnes had reluctantly agreed to.[1]

Stealing Sunglasses[]

"I stole these Top Gun aviator sunglasses, and the shopkeeper came running after me, and Che tackled him so I can get away."

While visiting Times Square, Hernán Álvarez and Darius Jones had stolen a pair of sunglasses from a shop, resulting in the shop's owner chasing after Alvarez to get them back. However, Jones tackled the shop owner and they both escaped, with Alvarez going on to wear these sunglasses every day for an entire year, resulting in him gaining the nickname Shades, until these sunglasses eventually broke.[2]

In 2011, Steve Rogers woke up in a simulated 1941 room. When an agent walked inside the room, Rogers demanded answers as to why the radio wasn't the right year and why he was being deceived. This caused the woman to call for backup. Rogers ran outside and found himself in Times Square, shocked by the new and advanced technology that was surrounding him.

As S.H.I.E.L.D. agents arrived on the scene and surrounded Rogers, the Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Nick Fury, walked up to him and explained that the reason for the ruse was to facilitate his transition to the present time after being unconscious for about seventy years. Rogers was saddened realizing that everything and everyone he knew was most probably gone, noting that he and Peggy Carter should have gone out dancing.[3]

George Stephanopoulos debates S.H.I.E.L.D.

Following the HYDRA Uprising, George Stephanopoulos had conducted an interview with Brigadier General Glenn Talbot from Times Square, as Talbot was in Washington, D.C.. Stephanopoulos and Talbot discussed the situation with tracking down the remaining Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., with Talbot promising that the United States Air Force had successfully dismantled S.H.I.E.L.D. and were battling HYDRA, and that any remaining fugitives would soon be brought to justice, noting that they were collecting S.H.I.E.L.D. equipment.[4]

Alisa Jones' Escape[]

As Alisa Jones had just managed to escape from the Eastern Regional Detention Center and returned to New York City, she soon found herself lost and confused in Times Square, struggling with her mental illness. However, Jones had then come across a poster for Trish Talk, which featured Trish Walker's face on the poster. As Jones believed that Walker was responsible for the death of Karl Malus, she then left Times Square and headed towards the WNEX Station, where she would attempt to get her revenge against Walker for Malus' death.[5]

In July 2024, J. Jonah Jameson from The Daily Bugle used doctored footage of Mysterio that revealed Peter Parker's identity as Spider-Man to the public. The large screens in Times Square broadcasted this footage. Parker and Michelle Jones swung through Times Square on their way to escape the spotlight, passing a large billboard in the Square promoting Rogers: The Musical.[6]

Due to Doctor Strange's failed spell, people from alternate universes were transported into the main one. Peter Parker called into The Daily Bugle, sending his message to the entire world apologizing, as he believed he was responsible for bringing all the dangerous men into their world and provided his location for them to find him. His message was broadcast throughout Times Square on their largest screens.[6]

Clint Barton and Kate Bishop walked through Times Square in December 2024, to get to Bishop Security Headquarters. As they walked through, Barton told Bishop about his hearing aid and why he needed it. A little boy then excitedly told his mother that there was a superhero in front of him, Barton turned himself around thinking he was being referred to, only to see that the boy was speaking about cosplayers dressed up as Ant-Man and the fictional Katniss Everdeen, among others.

Bishop then told him he had a branding issue and that she could help him with that, although Barton dismissed the suggested and instead advised that they continue on their way.[7] Two nights later, Barton then walked through Times Square again while on the phone with his wife, as he had discussed the ongoing situation with Maya Lopez and Wilson Fisk, as well as how long it would take him to complete this complex mission.[8]

Alternate Universes[]

Mind Control Plot[]

In an alternate universe, the Enclave set up one of their Mind Control Devices in Times Square in an effort to control the minds of everyone in Manhattan. Bi-Beast oversaw the guards as Hulk arrived and ordered the guards to deal with him. Hulk defeated the guards and destroyed the Mind Control Device, leading to an explosion that sent Hulk and Bi-Beast crashing into Times Square. Hulk and Bi-Beast fought, and Hulk ultimately defeated Bi-Beast, ripping off its head.

Hulk destroyed One Times Square while in New York City.[9]

Loki's Conquest[]

In an alternate universe, Loki and the Einherjar went to Times Square to attend the meeting at the United Nations Headquarters, having arrived following the demises of the Avengers. All of the screens in Times Square displayed Loki's speech to the United Nations, as he had announced his intention to rule the Earth, claiming that the Humans wanted to be ruled, and that he would give them this desire for their subjugation.[10]

Ultron arrives in another universe's Square

In another alternate universe, the people watched the screens in Times Square as Steve Rogers gave his speech at his presidential inauguration. However, during the speech, The Watcher landed in this universe's Time Square during his fight with Ultron, much to the horror of the onlookers, only for Ultron to attack the Watcher again, and they be teleported to another universe to continue their fight.[11]
