When I was growing up, I was an avid fan of the X-Men universe, reading all (including Limited Series, there were ten) the titles every month. The team was filled with powerful women, Storm, Rogue, Dazzler, Phoenix. Even the junior trainee team had girls more powerful or varied in power usage than their male colleagues, Moonstar, Magik, Wolfsbane.
Now I watch the MCU. The women are "amazing," to use Simmons' term. Melinda May, Black Widow, Mockingbird. Even Skye is "developing" to be more than she appears.
Meanwhile, the guys are getting weaker. Coulson is troubled with alien scribbles. Fitz is damaged. Triplett has been reduced to the pilot and exposition receiver. The strongest male member of Coulson's team was a traitor and is imprisoned.
Some will say look at Cap, Stark, and Thor. All movie characters, so we see them once, twice a year for three hours. We see the women for twenty-four hours, on an episodic basis.
Do others feel that guys are getting short-ended or am I exaggerating?...
