Carlos Ayala was an Inhuman technician and agent who worked for S.H.I.E.L.D.. However, he decided to leave the organization after learning from Captain America that HYDRA had taken over and went on to join NASA. Never realizing he was a latent Inhuman, he was brought to Afterlife by Gordon Nobili and underwent Terrigenesis from one of the Terrigen Crystals which would activate his powers. He left Afterlife when he was given his own personal residence during the Inhuman Outbreak and rejoined S.H.I.E.L.D. that was now led by the Inhuman Jeffrey Mace.
Throughout his career, Carlos worked as a technician for S.H.I.E.L.D. and was known to be very proud and loyal to Agent Phil Coulson, who would soon become the head director of S.H.I.E.L.D. in the future. However, when S.H.I.E.L.D. was under the control of HYDRA, a deadly terrorist organization that had infiltrated the organization for many years, Carlos decided to leave S.H.I.E.L.D. and work for NASA instead.
Six months after the death of Hive, Carlos rejoined S.H.I.E.L.D. that was now led by the Inhuman Jeffrey Mace, who has become the new director. Now earning the rank of agent, Carlos joined the Secret Warriors, a team that was reestablished by Director Mace to serve as an Inhuman sect of the organization.
