Born to a family of tour guides in Point Pleasant, Ohio, Ulysses was a college student who worked at Ohio State University. Ulysses was exposed Terrigen Mist and underwent Terrigenesis during the early months of the Inhuman Outbreak. After he emerged from his cocoon, Ulysses Cain was overwhelmed by his newfound powers, the ability to see into the future, and vividly experienced one premonition after another. People thought he was going nuts, and his family had him transported to a medical facility to recover.
Recruited into S.H.I.E.L.D.
Six months after the death of Hive, Ulysses was still in the facility when he was visited by Jeffrey Mace, who was also an Inhuman and the new director of S.H.I.E.L.D.. Cain didn't know who he was, but Mace gave him an offer that he could release him and earn a job in his organization. Since he wanted to be free in all, the young Inhuman accepted Mace's offer and joined the Secret Warriors, an Inhuman sect that was reestablished by the Director.
