"Odin, I bid you take your place in the halls of Valhalla...Where the brave shall live forever. Nor shall we mourn but rejoice for those that have died the glorious death."
Thor[src]

Valhalla is a place of splendor in the Asgardian afterlife.

History

This section needs a rewrite

The process in which Valhalla came into existence and how it fits into the cosmology of the Yggdrasil is not yet revealed. What is known however is that the Asgardians believe after death they will be resurrected there and subjected to paradise that would not normally be available to them within the Nine Realms.

Modern Era

"The delicacies so succulent you thought you had died and gone to Valhalla!"
Thor to Volstagg[src]

Valhalla has been referenced multiple times by the modern day Asgardians in different contexts.

When reminding his friends of their many adventures, Volstagg gloats of experiencing delicacies so succulent he thought he had died and gone to Valhalla.[1] After Odin's death, Thor wishes him joy now resting in the halls of Valhalla.

Trivia

  • In Norse mythology, Valhalla is a majestic, enormous hall ruled by Odin. Chosen by Odin, half of those who die in combat travel to Valhalla upon death, led by Valkyries, while the other half go to the goddess Freyja's field Fólkvangr. In Valhalla, the dead join the masses of those who have died in combat known as Einherjar.
