"I'm one of the True Believers."
"Believers in what?"
"In you."
―Virgil and Phil Coulson[src]

Virgil was a member of the True Believers in the Lighthouse who believed S.H.I.E.L.D. would travel to the future and save humanity. He greeted Phil Coulson, Alphonso Mackenzie, Yo-Yo Rodriguez, and Jemma Simmons when they arrived in 2091, but was killed by Vrellnexians shortly after.

Biography[]

True Believer[]

"I've been studying you for years, your history. I mean, I always believed. I mean, I had moments, but they... They tried to take that last bit away from me, but I always believed the stories were true."
―Virgil to Phil Coulson[src]

Living at the Lighthouse under Kree Watch's tyranny, Virgil befriended Tess and Deke Shaw, and also taught Flint how to fly the Trawler.[1]

Aware about the True Believers living on the surface of the Earth, Virgil frequently used the Trawler to reach Fragment 616 and communicated with the survivors, including Owen Shaw.[2]

Meeting S.H.I.E.L.D. Agents[]

"Alphonso "Mack" Mackenzie. Oh, it's good to meet you."
"How do you know me?"
"Oh, I know all of you. Yo-Yo Rodriguez. Is it okay if I call you Yo-Yo?"
"No."
"Okay. Jemma Simmons... Biochemistry. I'm sorry Fitz didn't get to make the trip, but he is thinking of you."
―Virgil, Alphonso Mackenzie, and Yo-Yo Rodriguez[src]

Virgil meets Phil Coulson

Virgil found Phil Coulson when he was transported to the Lighthouse by the Time Di'Alla. Upon realizing who Coulson was, Virgil told him that he had always believed in him and that he would one day come to save them. Before he could tell Coulson more details about their situation, Virgil was knocked unconscious by Alphonso Mackenzie.

When Virgil woke up again, he immediately recognized Mackenzie, Yo-Yo Rodriguez and Jemma Simmons. He revealed to them that he had studied their history for years, and that he believed they would save humanity. However, Virgil was killed by a Vrellnexian seconds later.[3]
