"I'm the super."
"So?"
"I don't know. You're shot. I like you. I'm involved."
―Oscar Arocho and Jessica Jones[src]

Oscar Arocho is a neighbor of Jessica Jones and the superintendent to her apartment building. Despite having a rough start and disliking her, he started to become close with Jones once she saved his son Vido's life, helping her in her cases and becoming romantically involved with Jones for some time.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Arrested for Forgery[]

"You were right. Our superintendent has a past. He's done time."
"Felony check forgery."
Malcolm Ducasse and Jessica Jones[src]

Oscar Arocho's mother immigrated to the United States after his birth and was raised. He soon married his childhood friend Sonia, had a son named Estevido Arocho, and had been arrested and charged with forgery.[2] Being in prison was hard, but he got to see Vido on the first Saturday of every month, so it made it better.[3] Moving to New York City six months after getting out of prison, he promised and provided a false green card for Eugene's boyfriend to emigrate into America and was rewarded position as superintendent to the apartment building.[2]

Moving Into the Apartment[]

With the aid of his brothers, Arocho began to cart his belongings through the halls and into his new apartment when Vido Arocho called to Jessica Jones standing at the base of the stairs. Briefly introducing themselves, Arrocho attempted to lift the fridge out of Jones' way until she willingly carried it for him, amazing an excited Vido who questioned if she was a superhero as she left.[4]

Undesirable Tensions[]

"Do you feel bad? For bringing the cops to my door?"
"All you had to do was tell them what you saw."
"I saw a man die. So did my son. Do you know what that does to a kid?"
―Oscar Arocho and Jessica Jones[src]

While getting ice cream with Vido Arocho, Oscar caught Jessica Jones on the opposite side of the street and witnessed her standing over the rumble of an accident and the body of Robert Coleman.[4] Later, he was interviewed by the police, alongside Jones' presence, and lied to seeing her at the scene of the accident. He then went to fix a light in the hallway. Jones walked by and stopped to confront him, asking if he felt bad. Oscar asked if she felt bad for bringing police to his doorstep. Arocho claimed he did not know who killed him, but it probably had something to do with powers. He then explained that he could not afford controversy because of his custody battle. Jones told him off before leaving.[5]

Evicting Jones[]

Oscar decided to give Jessica Jones an eviction notice because she was running a business out of her apartment. He also did not want her controversy around him. She knocked on his door and angrily told him off, saying swears in front of Vido. Oscar walked out and argued with Jones, more about how she ran her mouth around a kid. He then told her she had thirty days.

Later, he got a call from Jones saying her toilet was clogged. He went up to fix it only to find many tampons in the toilet. She claimed it was a hard week. He returned to his apartment only to find Jones talking to Vido. He told Vido to go to bed while Jones claimed she had dirt on him. Oscar told her that she was one phone call away from jail. She taunted him, saying he should call the police.[2]

Reconciling with Jones[]

"You saved Vido's life. He told me. I can't pay you back for that. Ever. But I'm tearing up the eviction notice, and I wanted to say thank you. Here. I was an asshole. I'm just scared of losing my son. I'm sorry."
―Oscar Arocho to Jessica Jones[src]

Sonia angrily approached Oscar and the two started arguing. Later, he and Sonia walked to Jessica Jones' apartment and found Vido being hung out the window by Jones. Oscar quickly rushed to Vido's aid and marched him out of there, but not before angrily telling Jones she had 25 days.

However, Vido told him that he fell, and Jones saved him, so he paid a visit to Jones's apartment later that night, offering her a bottle as a peace treaty. The pair then discussed their life over a drink, after which Jones kissed him and attempted to initiate sex. Oscar informed Jones that rushing to sex with someone she barely met, let alone hated less than an hour ago, was not normal, and subsequently left her apartment.[6]

In the late hours of the day, he got called by the police informing him that Jones had been arrested for murder. He claimed she had nothing to do with it as he did not believe she was capable of that. Jones finally got released and went to his apartment. They talked before Jones asked a huge favor: for him to make her a fake ID so she could talk to someone in a mental prison. He agreed as he owed her one. She came by after it was finished and he gave her it, but not before inviting her to dinner. However, she declined, saying she needed to work.[7]

A Bad Day Turned Good[]

Sonia had come to take Vido for the day, leaving Oscar to soak in his misery. He started painting to feel better, but his music was too loud. Jessica Jones knocked on his door and he realized it, apologizing. She walked in and they talked about his bad day before they started kissing. Oscar took off his shirt, but Jones accidentally spilled the paint. She went to pick it up, but Oscar kissed her more. They then had sex in the purple paint.

The next day, Oscar woke up before Jones and decided to paint a portrait of her sleeping. When she woke up, she saw the painting, but left immediately, leaving Oscar to wonder what he did was too much. He then finished the painting and left it in front of Jones' door.[8]

Meeting Jones' Mother[]

Arocho was walking in the stairwell when he came across Alisa Jones, who introduced herself as Jessica Jones' mother. They conversed in Spanish as they walked back to Jessica's apartment. When they got there, they found Jessica looking for her. As Alisa walked inside, Arocho concluded that Jessica did not like the painting. Jessica assured him that she did.[9]

Kidnapping of Vido Arrocho[]

"I saw your mom. She's like you."
"In some ways more than others."
"Whatever trouble she's in, all I know is that she helped me get my kid back. If you need something, papers to get her out... Anything."
―Oscar Arocho and Jessica Jones[src]

Arocho was talking with Jessica Jones when Sonia and Vido Arocho walked up to him. Sonia was mad that she was spending time with Jones, especially when there was broken glass on the street from her window. Sonia threatened to leave with Vido, but Arocho was not worried, claiming that she said that every week. Later, Arocho went to see Vido, only to find that he was gone. He called Jones for help. Oscar looked through the toy bin and found that Vido's Captain America was gone. With this, he realized Sonia truly left.

Oscar remembered that Sonia goes through her money quickly, so she probably used their joint credit card. With the card, he found that she took Vido to the bus station. Oscar, Jones, and her mother went to the station and looked around. Oscar found Jones and her mother stopping a bus by holding it down. Sonia then walked off with Vido and Oscar grabbed him. Alisa told Sonia that she would not be able to be with Vido in jail, causing her to stop.[10]

Another Favor for Jones[]

Arocho called Jones to thank her once again. She was still upset since her mother was arrested that night. Arocho asked if Jones was home and she replied saying she was going out. Arocho rushed upstairs and got out of the elevator just as Jones was leaving. He immediately hugged her. They soon had sex.

The next day, she asked him to make a fake ID for a man named Karl Malus. He did so despite her impatience to the long process that it would take. This fake ID could hopefully get Alisa Jones to a safe life in prison, so Arocho gladly did it.[3]

Family Dinner with Jessica[]

"Still a standing invitation?"
"Always. Come on. Grab another plate, buddy."
Jessica Jones and Oscar Arocho[src]

Arocho's apartment was investigated by police. He was asked by Jessica Jones to meet with her out of town. He did so and found out that Jones wanted fake IDs for Alisa Jones and herself. Arocho realized she wanted to leave with Alisa. He argued with her not to do so. Jessica then realized that the police followed Arocho, and she had to leave, but not before kissing Arocho.

Days later, Arocho prepared dinner when he heard a knock at the door. He was greeted by Jessica to whom he invited inside. They had dinner and Vido asked Jessica if she saved anyone that day. Jessica explained how she stopped a robbery.[11]

Ending Things Amicably[]

Jessica and Oscar - Season 3

Arocho speaking with Jessica Jones

"I wanted to talk to you about our friendship. I mean, that's what it is now, right?"
"I guess so."
"I'm not sure what happened."
"You're a good guy. That's what happened."
―Oscar Arocho and Jessica Jones[src]

Ultimately, things did not work out romantically between Arocho and Jessica Jones. Arocho came over to Alias one night to speak and the two agreed that despite the connection they had, their differing lifestyles were not compatible. Arocho revealed that he had met someone else, but that he was glad that Jones would still allow Vido to come over and visit with her, as he looked up to her.[12]
